Hello I am 2 yrs out now and lost a total of 128lbs, but lately I feel as though I eat bigger portions than  I should be able too. I have had to have surgery 2 times since for bowel obstructions. I am scared that I have stretched my pouch out by over eating at times.I know I need to go back to measuring my food portions and drinking my water, right now honestly all i drink is coffee and Iced tea with splenda. I don't eat no sugar only things made with splenda, I only eat whole wheat pasta and breads, I eat alot of chicken skinless and bonless and alot of fish, and smart ones from weigh****chers, but I have not been going to the gym alot of it is I just had my last sugery 4 wks ago and just got back to work so moving more now, I work as a ER tech so on my feet 8 hrs a day, but I am concerened that I can eat larger portions of certain things that I didnt think I could. I can eat a whole chicken breast with about 1 c of veggies, I try and eat something every 3-4 hrs so I am not overly hungery at dinner time, I have maintained my same weight now for about 10 mos now, what else can I do to lose  the last 15 lbs I want to lose?  did I possibly stretch   out ?my pouch? any suggestions? I feel very discourgared and scared right now, Just not wanting to regain what I worked hard on losing. Thanks for any suggestions, I do belive some of it might be head hunger and the fact that I feel the need to "clean my plate" which I always had to do as a child, I have tried smaller plates but a few times would get seconds a big no-no, I know. wondering what I could do Before I eat to curg this action. Thanks
Well I finally have my date it is January 7th 2009, So I will be starting off in the new year with a new me.

Sounds like you have made great progress (even with your obstructions)!  Congrats on that and for keeping a good attitude.

I always hear people say "if you do the same old thing you get the same old results..."  so why not do something different???   Pick up exercise again --- if it is a walk around the mall or Wal-Mart, get a new routine and give it a try!

Do you track what you eat each day so you know your actual #s???   I was amazed at the # of calories, sugar, fat I was actually eating when I started this approval process and started tracking.

Have you done the 5 day pouch test...? maybe that would give you a jump start???

Good luck!  Keep on posting, too!

It does sound like you can eat larger portions than the average RNYer, but people's pouch capacity seem to vary a lot ( I can eat half a chicken breast and some veggies but not a whole one (I'm 3.5 years out), but I have a good friend who is probably 6 years out by now who still can eat only half of one if she eats nothing else).

The pouch is made from the least stretchy part of the stomach, so it is unlikely that you have  overly stretched your pouch.  Keep in mind that the pouch naturally stretches a bit... if ti stayed as small as it was the day we had surgery, we would all starve to death unless we grazed all day long! Someone is MUCH more likely to stretch the stoma than the pouch, and even that is fairly rare because it usually requires overeating on a somewhat regular basis to stretch it.

The last 10-20 pounds are difficult for a lot of us, so you are not unusual in that.  I would encourage you to continue to focus on healthy eating and on portion control (the smller plates help, as does putting only the allowed portion of food on your plate, but you already know that you can sabotage this by refilling your plate).  Are you dirnking with meals?  If so, that would also account for you being able to eat more, since the liquid  washes the food out of the pouch.

Once you are physically healed, increasing the exercise may help you get a few more pounds off.  I will tell you what my surgeon told me, though... your body will ultimately decide on your end weight. Assuming that you are doing all the right things, you might be at the weight your body naturally wants to be at... even if it is not the weight you would LIKE to be. I met my goal weight, but it was conservative... just getting to a "normal" BMI... and I really WANTED to lose anotehr 5-10 pounds.  No matter what I did, the scale just would NOT move.  It has been hard for me to  accept that I simply am not ever going to be smaller than a 10/12.  My body fat percentage is good even though my weight is right on the line between normal and overweight... but I still wanted to be a single digit size.  As long as you are maintaining and not gaining weight, that's a victory!

Thanks Lora for the info, yes I do drink some when I eat, I did'nt know that it was "washing" my food through, so yeah I will stop that today. Yes my dr also said that my body will stop at the weight it wants to stay at and I belive I have hit that it seems that 133-138 lbs is where it seems to want to be at. I am a sz 6 so happy in that but oh my the skinI hate the saggy skin so much, and surgery is not an option due to no ins for it and truthly that amount of money just is not in our budget.I am going to be going back to my treadmill walking very soon, and when spring comes around I will be getting back on my bike and doing my 3-4 mile trail ride. Thanks so much for the info.
