OSU...Dr Needleman/Dr Macami what was your experience
DS on 08/20/12
My experience with OSU did not go well. It was 2 1/2 years of my time wasted. After going slowly through the process (because the people running the program basically made me do everything on my own, like I was supposed to know what to do) I was told Dr. Needleman would not even see or talk to me until I lost 170 lbs. Sure, I'll do that right away. If I could lose that much on my own I wouldn't even need him. I'd ust stick with dieting and forget surgery.
So I saw a commercial for Cleveland Clinic. Within 6 months, with their help and guidance all the way, I lost 102 lbs and had my surgery two weeks ago. I was much more impressed with their program and their staff. I also had much more faith in their doctors, too. I'm just over an hour from OSU and almost 3 1/2 hours from Cleveland. But for me the trips to Cleveland were worth it. I hope if you stick with OSU you have a better experience than I did. Best of luck to you.

I'm just about ready to be submitted for approval --- last of 6 classes tomorrow night. Hoping for a quick approval and date... the process has seemed like it's taken an eternity. I've learned a lot (they have a 6 month class).
No complaints yet. I've had a couple of different RDs running the classes, office staff I've been in touch with has been kind and knowledgable.
Good luck to you!

I had my surgery 2 yrs ago at OUS with Dr. Makimi, I love him as my surgeron, but did not like the Hosp stay, they staff I thought did not help much,I since have had surgey 2 more times for bowel obstructions, and my home town surgerons wont touch me since my body is different now so I have to always see my RNY surgeron and since he knows that my 1st one there was not pleasent for me, He make sure the last 2 have been good I had a private room each time and the staff was wonderful. I have lost 128lbs thus far. I expressed my stay with him and he was shocked at the care i got and he personally wrote there director of nursing for that floor. Since then like I said I have had 2 more surgerys with him and my stays now are much better, private room and wonderful care now.But as for him I love him I felt very comfortable with him.
I had Dr. Needleman Dec. 2009. I really like him and the OSU program. It is important to let them know what's going on if you are having problems; I had an infection in one incision and was helped out right away when I called the office. Also, the 6 classes prior are great help and even more help is the support group that meets the 1st and 4th Wed of the month. The help is there... but you do have to seek it out. We all experience pain after surgery, but it is worth it! After 2 months of recovery, I felt like a new person.
