Post RNY ??? Dumping vs. Late Dumping???
I had RNY surgery back in 8/2007... long story short I never lost the weight I had hoped to. I'm awaiting word from Cleveland Clinic to their revision program. Meanwhile my insurance company's "Health Coach" referred me out to a dietician . If I do not eat carbohydrates I get EXTREMELY DIZZY... then by eating something the dizziness goes away. The feeling does not come over me until well after an hour of eating ...hence the dietician called this "LATE DUMPING". I've heard of dumping and it's symptoms...but does anyone know... are there truly two forms of dumping syndrome after RNY?
The dietician working with me is going to have me try a modified diabetic diet to see if I can lose any weight. She also is changing my vitamin regime from 4 optisource and 2 calcium citrate with vitamin D down to 1 Centrum per day.
I'm nervous about this change but my weight keeps creeping up and I'm continually hungry. Could my dizziness attacks be what she referred to as "Late Dumping" only relieved by eating more food?
Your comments are appreciated.

The body DOES NEED CARBS so this makes sense to me when you eat the dizzy goes away.
As far as dumping goes .... dumping is dumping sometimes it happens right away otheres it might take a while.
For the vitamines just go with what your labs and what your body tells you.
FOR ME I haven't taken any vitamins in almost 4 years.....NOW is this right maybe not I only know what WORKS FOR ME. I eat ok and I'm HEALTHY.
Good Luck,

I myself watch the amount of carbs I eat. I don't eat any really right now. I am on a no sugar no flour food plan and only eat oatmeal in the AM as a grain. No pasta or sweets for me. Eventually I will get to up grade to some brown rice and baked potato for lunch for or dinner. This has helped me immensely.
Thanks for your reply. Why do you do the no sugar, flour, pasta or sweets? Sounds almost like an underlying celiac d. problem. (or willpower beyond my greatest imagination). I can't imagine ever having dumping with your fantastic food choices. You've truly cut out all the evils I struggle with. I appreciate your post. Thanks :-).
What I do not understand is why the dietician would refer to your body's reaction to too few carbs as "dumping". That reaction and dumping are two completely different processes.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
First let me compliment you on your journey.... wow you look TERRIFIC!!! My surgery was 8/24/07 and I almost look like the day they rolled me into surgery. You're truly an inspiration.
The reason the dietician talked about dumping with to few carbs... was actually referring to a low blood sugar because of "too few carbs"... then by eating carbs... my body would utilize the carbs and then go into late stage dumping (potentially... again depending on the type of carbs I ingested as you pointed out). My problem remains ...no matter how good I am at following my diet... high protien and low carb combination... journaling , watching caloric intake I cannot lose any weight after RNY after the first few months. I'm hopeful to soon find out via testing in Cleveland if there is something wrong that I can appropriately deal with. Thanks for your post.
