Hello everyone. Newbie here.
Hi there. Juts kind of wanted to re-introduce myself. I had researched weight loss surgery on this site in the past and I've decided with the help of my family doctor that it's time to stop researching and start doing. :) He is recommending Mount Carmel West's program and said I should start by attending an information session. I am in the middle of moving though, so I won't start anything until that is over, probably December or so. Maybe this will be my last fat Christmas.
My doctor is leaning towards RNY, but the malabsorption and vitamin issues are what bother me about that. He talked me out of lap-band too. I'm leaning towards VSG now, but I'm pretty sure I'd never get that approved through insurance.
Anyway, about me... I am a single mom of 2 beautiful daughters ages 3 and 2. I have always been bigger, but never considered myself obese until I saw it in my OB's chart when I had my daughter 3 years ago. Since then (not because of that), I have gained even more weight. My BMI is 42 now. I have tried all kinds of diets all through life, only to regain the weight again.
I am very glad to have found this site. It is loaded full of information and its so nice to find others who have or are going through the same things. Congratulations to those of you that are done. Your pictures look amazing!
Next here's some info from someone almost 6 years out.
NOW is this the NORM I don't know it's just normal for me ( and a few otheres I have talked to)
AND YES I know I'll get some bashing for saying this.
I haven't taken any vitamins in about 5 years now. I took a regular mulit and then for whatever reason, cost, forgetting or whatever I stopped. AND I'M FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANDYES MY pcp AND wls DOC KNOW THIS.
So in short if you have a good doc they will take enough but not to mucH and you really don't have to worry about malabsorption,
NOW you should follow what the doc and you labs tell you about what vitamins you do need to take but just remember not everyone has to take a bunch of pills after WLS.
Good luck
