Hi everyone,
I am considering lap band surgery. I have Medical Mutual Insurance and my handbook says it won't pay for any WLS. I will have to pay out of pocket. I live in crawford County any suggestions where I should go (hopefully not to far from home). Do all Dr.s charge close to the same amount since i won't have insurance help? I am 56 years old am 5feet 3 inches tall weigh 225 and have tried everything to lose weight,Thanks Tina

Your best bet is to call MMO and ask what WLS docs are IN NETWORK and then start calling the docs and see how much they charge and start doing your research on each of them.  Find out the good the bad and the ugly, PLEASE don't just go to the cheapest doc. ALSO remember that there are more follow up cost with the band than with other WLS because of fills and such.
Good Luck,
Robin

Thanks so much for your reply. Sometimes you are tempted to go with the cheapest Dr. but I know that when you are dealing with your health there are more important things to consider than money. I am not sure what things are the most important things to consider when choosing a Dr. I think I was leaning toward a lapband because you can have it taken out if you aren't happy with it. Guess I need to do more research and go by the Dr's suggestions. Thanks for any all thoughts that you all can share.Tina

Dr's fees can vary greatly sometimes, but you'll also want to consider the cost of follow-up care, which is more frequent with the band for fills and unfills, costing a couple hundred dollars each visit as well.  If you want restriction-only, I'd recommend the VSG over the LapBand.

Thanks so  much for responding to my question. I will have to read up on a VSG and ask questions next week when I go to a Weightloss Seminar.I just want to feel satisfied and not be hungry all the time. I should be making my decision soon. You look great! Tina
