Almost There...
Hi everyone,
I am new to OH (the website, not the state!). My surgery is scheduled for June 30, 2009. After a long process I decided to go with Barix Clinics because of their specialization and high volume of surgeries (and the fact that they do a leak test for every patient the day after the operation). I really can't believe it is only a little more than a week away! I did a ton of research and I hope that everything works out.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to expect for the first two or three weeks after surgery. I have heard from a few people but I just want to know about the things that were unexpected, what things should cause me to be concerend, etc.
For example, how much walking is too much? How many stairs will I be able to handle? Will I have the strength to walk my dog (he pulls), or will that open me to the possibility of wound infection? I've asked my doctor these questions, but for some reason I trust the opinion of people who have gone through this more than those who do the operation!
Anyway, I have been on the pre-op diet for a while, and this has been good for me because I have found some protein powders that I really like, and eating the six small meals has actually decreased my hunger. The 5/30 rule has been tough (the 30 more than the 5), but I am getting better every day. I am really excited to have the surgery!!
Thanks in advance for your advice!

I had surgery 04/13/09. Nothing eventful happened and thanks to this website, I was fully prepared for what was happening to me. I would not reccomend walking your dog for at least 4-6 weeks after surgery. I made the mistake of walking my dog 2 weeks post op, ended up back in the hospital with horrible pain. Worse pain than the actual surgery. The more walking you do, the better you will feel, but you have to take it slow. Don't overdo it. Hope everything goes well for you and I will be praying for a speedy recovery for you.
Hi!
Wanted to wish you a good luck. I am scheduled for surgery July 14th. So I am in the same boat as you.
Hang in there!!
