Selecting a Surgeon
I have recently attended 3 different information seminars in Toledo, Ohio, regarding bariatric surgery. I've narrowed down my choice to 2 surgeons. I have read comments from members about both surgeons, but am still undecided, although am leaning towards one in particular. Their names are: Dr. Patrick White (Toledo Hospital) and Dr. Brian Lane (University of Toledo Medical Center). The only disappointment I have with Dr. Lane, at this point, is that he was not at the seminar, but Amy, his physician's assistant, conducted the meeting. I would've preferred to meet him there. Can anyone give me any feedback on these two physicians? Did anyone have a similar dilemma as to selecting a surgeon? If so, how did you finally make the right choice for yourself?
I would also try to go to the support groups for both and see what people are like out side the seminars. What is the real after care like?

Hi
I had surgery with Dr Lane and had great results and care. The support group meets the last Tues of every month (change in April).
Dr Lane, (preop) spent about an hour and a half with my husband and I. He drew a picture, told us of the complications that could happen, and answered all of our questions. Am so glad I chose him. his staff is great and follow up care is too. If you have any questions, just ask. I too live in Perrysburg.

I started going to Dr. Lane's office 1 year ago at Wood County Hospital and never met the man. I only met Amy. Apparently he doesn't meet with his patients until they are almost in surgery. On my 3rd visit to the dietician imagine my surprise when I walked in the office and it was being packed up...boxes everywhere. I asked what was going on and found out he left Wood County by choice or othewise..don't know. From the feeling I got, I think he was asked to leave. Wood County was bringing in Dr. Peter Lalor to take over the program. I did not know which doctor to go with. It made it easier because Dr. Lane or his staff NEVER contacted me, nor did I receive a letter from them. I was just dropped. I also worked with 2 women who had the surgery with Dr. Lane, they both had their checkups coming up, one for 1 year the other for 6 months....and could not locate Dr. Lane or his staff. There were rumors he was going to MCO, but after contacting MCO, he didn't have an office yet. They had to go to his HOME to see him. I questioned every staff member of Wood County I came accross for my tests and asked who would they choose and they said Dr. Peter Lalor, he's much more thorough and does many more tests. Dr. Lalor does his own seminars and wants to meet his patients on the 1st visit and every visit, not as your being wheeled into the operating room. I am so thankful I chose Dr. Lalor, I had my surgery Rouxy on December 1st and have lost 85 pounds. That's only 4 1/2 months. I have had NO problems whatsoever. My co-workers who had their surgery with Dr. Lane have had many problems and have landed in the hospital. Please consider going to Dr. Lalor's seminar and make your decision after meeting him. The staff is wonderful and they are on the ball.
