Went to see Doc, first appointment. Need info

Finally, I got to see Dr Stellato.  I liked him.  He told me I was a good cadidate to get bariatric surgery.  I have lost 121lbs on my own and now need to lose another 100lbs.  I have been going to my doctor every three months for my check on my weight.  Dr Stillato told me it will be up to the insurance.  BC/BS if they accept the five years of dieting or not.  They still may want me to do a six month diet.  SO ... My surgery date can be anywhere from three months, to six months.  Anyone have a similiar experience?

I am excited and nervous about the operation and am going to boost up my excercise.  I told him I did about 15 min a day.  However that is not including playing with the dogs.  Working around the house  etc.    I used to Tai chi , I think I will start that up again.

Let me know if anyone can help me about the doctor and insurance.  I would greatly appreciate it.

I did not have to have the 6 month diet with my insurance, so I do not know how that works,

But I wanted to say good job on  the weight loss. It sounds like you are doing great, keep up teh good work.

Thanks for answering.  I am hoping that what I have done so far is enough.  The nurse was going to talk with their insurance person and try to get an idea of what she thought today.  Then they were going to call me.  I am hoping it will be good enough.  I understand why they make you do the six months but if someone has already shown they can stick to  a diet and was watched every three months for five years.  I think that should count.

Well, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you for the support you offered.  It is really appreciated.

My insurance required me to have a six month doctor supervised diet. You must visit your doctor once a month for six consectuctive months with the doctor taking notes detailing that you discussed the progress of the diet and the nuturition and exercise. The more information you and the doctor can provide the better. List any and all comoribities etc.....

Insurance is a pain in the butt but fight your way through  it is well worth the effort.

Greetings!

Thanks for answering.   I pretty much know, even with the weight loss I have done already and the doctor visits.  I am going to have to do the six months of visits.  The nurse called and told me that I pretty much am going to have to do that.  I was disappointed but, I will do it.  I have made up my mind.  I want this for me.

Thanks again,

Mary

My Insurance required me to do the 6th month doctor supervised diet. It was well worth I proved that I could not loose weight on my own and had a yes the first time we submited to them. I no longer had the old medicaid but a new form of it. Good luck on your journey and Great job on your weight lose already. Taff

wow, first time.  That is great news. Makes me feel hopeful.    I have started drinking the whey protein drink.  I am going to add some frozen fruit to it today and see how that is.  Can you do that right after surgery if you blend it well?

Thanks for answering, and I am hoping that I get approved as fast as you. My doctors appointment is March 23rd and I guess that will start my 6 months.   Even though I saw her every three months for five years.  I guess that won't work.  I wi**** would.

Thanks again

I do not know if you will be able too. Every person is different after they have surgery. I was very sick after my surgery and could not keep anything down but smashed pea's. If your Docters office is good they will know what differenty insurance compenys are looking for. Dr.Maguire office has some one that does nothing but insurance. And mind you when I they approved me like they did I had switched insurance compenies not by choice  but it worked out for the best for me I was also 527 pounds and I am 5'4" and had a lot of medical problems it was not just proving that I could not loose weight.  Feel free to ask me more Good luck on the 23 I am crossing my fingers for you.

Boy, you did great!  I have an appointment with my PCP on the 23rd.  That is to start the six month diet if I need it.  They also want me to see a dietician.  It can get costly with all the doctors you have to see.  And, all the tests.  Hopefully, my insurance will cover most of the cost.

I hope some of your medical problems cleared up with your weight loss.  Hang in there, you are doing great.

Thanks for answering my post too!!

A lot of my problems have cleared up now.A Jan 6th of this year I had to have my by pass reversed. My insurance covered the dietician they covered everything, I have ohio medicaid if that helps with anything. They have been great well it is not called ohiomedicaid anymore now you have HMO's but the policies are still pretty much the same as they were with the regulare medicaid I just have to have a pcp now where before I did not. You will do great I know you will.
