Hi!  A member of my family had the laproscopic Roux-en-Y.  I believe that this family member did cheat.  During the operation, the liver was so large that the surgeon had to do an open Roux.  So if you want to risk having an open Roux (and the huge scar that goes with it) go ahead and cheat.  If you want the tiny scars of a lap Roux, then hang in there.  I am going to have a lap Roux in April, so I will be up against the same liquid diet in the not too distant future.  I am not looking forward to that!

Best wishes!

I fortunetly did not have to do the liqued diet before my surgery. I did have to diet though not to loose any weight because at 500 pluse pounds Dr.Maguire new that I would not loose on my own but he did want to try and shrink my liver. I did not have the RNY done but did have the BPD done and I will tell I was never hunger after my surgery and again I had a doc that tryes to get you on soft food before you leave the hospital. I did however after surgery when I could eat real food again never really ate what I was supposed to, it was so much easer to keep the bad things down carbs became my best friend all over again. I would throw up protein. In the end I had to have my surgery reversed. If this means any thing to you do what you are supposed to it makes it easer in the end. I do not miss food now that I had it reversed I still have my days where I slip and eat what I want to eat instead of what I should eat. I wish you all the luck there is out there. Taff
