Hello I am only 6 wks out and I can notice a thinning to my hair already. OMG I am freaking out over this,I am taking my prenateal vit that my doc told me to take plus 2500mg of B12 and 2000mg of biotin and 50mg Zinc, I was told that taking them would help prevent that. I try and get in as much protein as I can some days is more than others I avg about 40-50gms a day right now. I thought it would be months before something like this MIGHT happen, Can anyone tell me what else I can take to stop this and my god will it stop or am I gonna go bald? I can't belive that it is happening this soon, but I can see and feel a loss it is not as thick and OMG it is thinning in the front also. So please can anyone give any suggestions or tell me how long this will last or will it grow back.
Thanks
Jan

Hi Jan

I haven't lost any hair as of yet.  I have about 65g of protein a day.  Try to get in as much as I can.  The gals that have lost their hair in here said it comes back in thicker and better and there is an end to it.  So hang in there and take care.

Some people say the biotin helps, but most people don't find it very useful.  It IS useful once the hair starts to re-grow, though.   Despite getting in my minumum protein in almost every single day from day 1 (thanks to a gastric tube) AND taking biotin since before surgery, I started losing hair in my 4th month post-op and it did not stop until month 8 and  I lost about half of my hair volume, so clearly the hiotin did NOT help me.  You will NOT go bald (I have only heard of one woman whose hair loss was so bad she decided on a wig for a few months).  Just remind yourself that it WILL stop falling out (WHEN that will happen is impossible to say because it is different for everyone) and it WILL grow back eventually, and that because your face is getting thinner most others will not even notice (even my mom did not notice until we went on vacation together sortly before the hair loss stoppped and she saw first hand how many times I day I had to clean the ahir off my shirt and how much was in the bathroom trash every morning).

p.s. my hair has NOT come back any thicker or "better" than before, but I DO have a bunch of little 3 inch hairs all over my head.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Hi Jan,

I had the same problem.  I had my surgery in April, 2008 and my hair is finally starting to come back in.  It was already thin to begin with and, in addition, I have an underactive thyroid for which I take meds.  The thinning is so bad I thought of getting a wig.  I might still get a hair piece because you can still see my scalp a good bit, especially at the top.

You're doing all that I would suggest to you except the Nioxin.  My hair dresser said doctors recommend it to their oncology patients.  I've been using it since before the surgery, but I can't really say if it helped.  I don't take biotin (the pill gets stuck).  I think it's just a cycle you go through.  It takes a few months to come back.

Hope you're feeling better and are able to eat more.  Take care.

Hugs,   Peggy

I went to Sallys beauty supply and bought human hair $10.00 that matched my color and I glue it in in about 3 inch sections that are on a track.  The glue is one dollar a bottle.  I do it myself and no one at work could tell.  I used the Sassy brand- i did buy special shampoo and can usually tack it back in when loose.  I will last one week... i just rub conditioner in it and the glue comes loose and hair can easity be removed.  This gives me body and thickness.
I even bought the 12 inch lengh and have hair past sholders now... I get a ton of complements (I wore it up in a pony before I transitioned to long hair) and people told me that I have beautiful hair and should wear it down.
When i tell them it is a weave- glued to my hair they are shocked and dont believe me...
I let them feel it and they are stunned.
