Just feeling that I am not loosing fast enough!

My weight loss has slowed a lot and feeling a little down about that.  I have increased my protien and exercise but I have now had a two week stall.  The holidays were very hard on me.  I did well though I am proud of myself.  I feel like I should have lost more than 52lbs by now.  I had my surgery Oct 6 and I am coming up on my 3 month mark.  I have actually lost a total of 72lbs since I lost 20 lbs before surgery. I am very thankful of what I have lost so far.  But it just seems that I have slowed so much that I might be doing something wrong.

I read too much about how much others have already lost by 3 months.  I was just wondering if anyone else out there noticed that when they hit the 3 month mark if things slowed way down too.  Any ideas or words of wisdom and encouragement?

I am just feeling a bit frustrated right now.  I think I got the winter blues already!  Come on Spring!(I miss walking outside!)

Thanks,

Amy

Amy...  I feel your pain, only I am worse off than you are.  At least you have already lost 52 lbs....I had the lapband surgery on July 1st of '08 and have only lost about 20 lbs as of today.  I have been at my present weight for the past 6 weeks and can't lose anymore.  I would be thrilled to have lost 52 lbs!  Losing only 20 lbs in 6 months isn't doing so good....but at least it's not a gain.

I don't think you or I are doing anything wrong...it's just that our bodies are trying to hold onto the excess weight and winning so far.  We can't give up....sooner or later the weight will start to drop off again.  We both need patience...right???

Hi Amy,

You could just be in a plateau right now.  We all go thru it..  Just keep on track, try upping your water intake.  Journal all your food to make sure you are not overdoing it in calories or carbs.  Sometimes if you up your protein a little it will also get the wt loss moving again.  Another thing is to track your measurements also,  you might not see the numbers moving on the scale, but you might be losing inches!!

52# in 3 months is great!!!  Have you ever lost that much before in such a short time??  and you know it will most likely stay off this time as well!!!

Congrats on what you have accomplished so far!!!  Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks! I know its just sometimes I worry this won't work for me.  I am working hard and really watching so I know the scale will start to move again!

Thank you you are right that is the most I have ever lost in that amount of time.  I need to stop being to obessed with the numbers and focus on feeling good!

Hi again Amy,

Another quick idea... I know its hard, but don't weigh yourself every day.  I track my weight every Monday..  now I do get on the scale about everyother day, just to watch for fluxuations, but I only chart my Monday weights, and only after waking up and using the bathroom, so I am empty basically.

I see you are in toledo too...where did you have your surgery.

I sent you a friends request!!

I think we all initially have that little worry in the back of our heads that -- because we have failed at weight loss SO many times before -- we will also fail with the surgery.  Just relax... focus on protein, water, vitamins, and exercise, and the weight will come off (I promise!).

The numbers really CAN do more harm to us than good sometimes.  I had a long period where I had to get off the scale and stop reading ANY posts that were about how much other people have lost because they were depressing me.  Some days -- oh, say, every day for the last 2 weeks -- I still get bummed out that I'm never going to be a size 8 (and that these last 15 pounds are just NOT budging!), but here's how I look at it (on my good days, LOL):  How much someone else weighs, or how much weight they have lost doesn't effect my life in any way... it doesn't change how I feel or look physically, it doesn;t change my health, it doesn't change the size clothes that *I* am wearing.  So comparing my numbers to someone else's numbers will likely only contribute to negative feelings (althoiugh sometimes it is nice to look at people who have lost a lot of weight (and endured their own stalls and plateaus) so you can be encouraged that your weight  WILL eventually come off, too.)

I know it's hard not to focus on the numbers (like I said, the past 2 weeks have been bad for me in that respect), but please don;t let the numbers take anything away from your accomplishment or make you feel bad about yourself.

Thank you! I want you to know I have followed your progress through your posts.  And you have no idea how much you have helped me before and after surgery!  It means a lot that you post so much and help so many of us!

So I really want to give you a great big "THANK YOU!"
