Yeah 16 days and a wake-up and my life will be changed WOW!! I am so excited and so scared at the same time. I am not to good at handling pain(although my dr assures me i will have enough to cope) I am still scared. I am in no way having regretts about the surgery, just I have not heard that many good things about the nursing care at OSU in columbus and that Is where i have to have it at, I will have my hubby there and mom the day of surgey and a friend will come up the next day to help me out too (she is an RN too, we work in the same ER at our hosp). but still just have the jitters. I have already started worrying about how I will be able to get any ps after I meet my goal, Ins will not pay for any of that, and funds here at home is very tight to say the least right now. so anyway just want to vent here some, thanks for listening, and I will post when I get home as son as i am able to. Happy Holidays to all.
Well I finally have my date it is January 7th 2009, So I will be starting off in the new year with a new me.

Hi There,

It's normal to start getting scared... I know I was, and I am an RN too... I had never had surgery before, not even and IV.  Honestly the pain really was tolerable... I was able to get morphine the first night and then switched to vicodin the next morning.  Hope everything goes smoothly for you!!

Happy Holidays

It's completely natural to be both excited and scared at the same time.  You will be fine, especially since you already have people lined up to help you afterward.  Don't worry about the excess skin and plastic surgery issues -- there will be plenty of time for that later, LOL! -- just focus on committing yourself to protein, water, vitamins, and exercise to get the weight off and develop the new, healthier habits you will need to keep the weight off.

Hi there!
Good luck on your upcoming surgery! I had mine 9/17/08 and do not regret anything. I started getting a little nervous knowing the medical risks of surgery ( I too am an ER nurse). The night before was really the stressful one for me. I think you are right having some family lined up to keep an eye on you. I had mine at Akron General and was very pleased with the nursing care I received. Family was not able to stay but I was ok with having my time to recover. I was up walking the halls the night of surgery (the first walk was rough, but after that they just kept getting easier). My doctor actually timed out pain medication as orders because I really did not think the pain was bad. i did like having some family stop by the first couple weeks to help out with child care or just to take a break. I had also planned on no cooking for 2 weeks (liquid diet for me) and that only lasted a couple days. I had no nausea (I was extremely grateful for this!!)
Anyway, good luck and if I can help with any questions I'd be happy to help!

OK JOETTA,

i came home from my gastric bypass at OSU last friday and i am doing great! the staff there made me feel relaxed and comfortable. i don't remember like the first 24 hours. my boyfriend said "kat was as loopy as a box of fruit loops" but that ok .. before you leave they will give you a script for the pain in the packet before you leave the hospital. (the green pages) .. but you will do GREAT!... i was in for my surgery on december 16th at 2pm. i had dr mikami. he works with dr needleman. 1 week home and i am slowly getting better each day the pain is less.. HINT HINT HINT : watch a sneeze.... WOW what a surprise... giggle if you would like add me as a freind and let me know when your up and back on line.. today was my first day on line ... remember slow and steady wins that races.. and MAN what a gret! wonderful NEW journey we are on!

Kathy  (sorry no pic yet haven't figured that one out yet)

Wow Kathy, Yes I would be happy to have you as my friend on here, I need all I can get right ow lol. I will be having Dr Mikami also instead of Dr Needleman, I just don't know how to change it on my page hahaha. AnywayI will be having a friend come up the next day after surgery to stay the nite and take me home the following day, (she is an RN and works in the ER with me) So I will have someone there, my hubby will of course be there on surgery day along with my mom, but I will need him at home the 1st week so he is saving vacation time for that.I am so hoping my expereince there at OSU is a good one(nursing wise) I have not had the best of expereince there with other family members that have been there. I just am so ready to get this done, and so scared at the same time, I am having SO many feelings inside, but none of backing out of my journey, I have come to far and I will see this through till the end. Thank You for your words of support and I will keep you in my thoughts on YOUR recovery also so please let me know how your doing, and if your getting in what you need to fluid wise ect... Thank you  Jan
