DS with Rita Anderson or Dr Teel
Hi Everyone,
Well I found out I am pregnant so no surgery for me next month but it gives me more time to research the DS. Have any of you had Lap DS with Dr ANderson or Dr Teel? Any advice or opinions? I originally wanted the RNY b/c there are no close surgeon that do DS and I figured it would work too but I really think DS would be better for me so maybe it would be worth the drive and since I have about 9 months to think about it now I figured I would get as much info as possible. Thanks

Both would be good. Both have "studied" under one of WLS founders the best Mr. Maguire. Dr. Anderon used to be with Dr. Maguire before he went to Miami Valley to start their WLS program. Now Dr. Teel is with him. To me it would be a matter of which hospital you would like better Kettering or Miami Valley. I have the link to Doc. Rita http://www.newlifesurgery.com/ You could do a search and find Dr. Teel and Mguire and Miami Valley. You really can't go wrong with either of them.
Good Luck in you 9 months of research.

Just a heads up, Dr. Anderson doesn't do the DS laproscopically. But by no means should that deter you. I was very concerned about the whole open vs lap and wanted nothing to do with open surgery. I went to one of Dr. Anderson's seminars and felt very confident about her comment about Lap vs Open. She stated she starts out lap (for rny) but if she has any reason to doubt her stiching she WILL open you up enough to get her hand in there so she has reassurance that there's no chance of leaks. That in itself is enough for me.
I have to shout out that I LOVE me some Dr. Rita (we call her that, because there is a Dr. Gary Anderson in the office too). Her staff is wonderful, the hospital rooms in the bariatric wing are wonderful and I just received great care both times I went (2nd time was for hernia repair). One of the things I liked about Dr. Rita was that she glued my incision. I had no stitches at all to deal with.

I am a patient of Dr. Maguire, so he is my personal favorite, but....Does Dr. Teel even do the DS? I was under the impression his specialty was LB, and I know he does the RNY. I know several people who had the DS w/ Dr Rita and Maguire, All Very happy!
I thought Maguire was worth the wait...if that's the issue.

Actually, Dr. Teel not only does the DS, but he's the only one of the three that does it laproscopically. Back when these three docs all worked at the same practice, he assisted Dr. Anderson with my DS.
