4 Month Out Stall

I hit my 4 month mark for the Lap RNY on 10/23/08 and for the past 4-1/2 weeks I have stayed at the same weight.  Has this happened to anyone? If so, what can you do to jump start the weight loss again? I am now at having lost 59% of my total body weight. Is this where it will stop? Not sure what to think or what to do.  Please help and offer suggestions should you have any.

Also at the 3 month mark I started losing my hair.  I don't have patches but would like to know when this too may stop?  I have been taking 5000mcg 1X day of Biotin and using Nioxin shampoo/conditioner since Feb. 08.  Not sure it really helps.  Any thoughts?

Thank you and God Bless!

Stalls at any point along the way are not only common, but to be expected.  The best thing you can do (other than try to be patient and assure yourself that ti will eventually break) is to make sure you are focusing on protein and water and limiting carbs.

The hair thing really varies a lot from one person to another... both in terms of how long it lasts and how much hair you lose.  I started taking biotin 2 months before surgery and my hair did not start coming out until the middle of month 4, so I thought maybe I wouldn't lose much.  Wrong!  My hair continued to fall out for the almost the next 4 months... and I lost close to half of my hair.  So, me personal experience with the biotin is that it did not help at all.  I did not try the Nioxin based on info from my hairdresser.  The good news is that 1) as your hair falls out, your face gets thinner so people don't really notice, and 2) it WILL grow back.

Hi Lora,

Thank you for your much needed insight and advice! I have started to up my water and protein today and have been going through my food diaries looking for things such as the extra carbs you mentioned.  I did notice a few things I will definitely change as a result of this review.  Nothing major but it was definitely an "opportunity" area for me.

At this point, I am just hoping for the best when it comes to my hair.  It was long and thin to begin with so I guess that is about all I can do.  I have been limiting the "curling" and "brushing" of it and have been using a wide toothed comb and simply putting it up on my head in a wide toothed clip.  Hopefully by not adding additional stress and pulling on it, maybe it will help?  Perhaps wishful thinking on my part....LOL.  I guess that too will be what it will be.  I hope it starts growing back soon.

Thanks again and have a wonderful day!

Hi Lisa, Lora pretty much said it about both questions.  The stalls I had were annoying and you think that you aren't going to lose again.  But as we go throught them you start to understand you body better.  DOn't despair - you will continue to lose.  My stuggle with hair has finally resolved and I am 10 months out.  I started about 6 months out and lasted for 4 months.  I had very long hair and got it cut really short so I am now seeing all the new growth.  Good luck on your journey!

Thank you so much for your response.  I really appreciate knowing that the "journey hasn't come to an end" at least not yet.  I still want to lose another 30-40 pounds.  I have been following everything to a "T" but will go back through my food diaries and look for some changes/patterns that may stand out.  My hair is long too but it was never thick.  I guess I will just hope for the best and hope it levels out soon...Thanks again!

Thank you for your advice and insight.  I have already started now to increase the protein and water.  Hopefully, this will help.  Let's just say it certainly can't hurt.  Still following the nutrition plan to a "T" but reviewing trying to find little things I may have overlooked.  I will just continue to pray when it comes to my hair.  Just certainly hope "some" of it remains intact. LOL!  Have a great day and again, many thanks!

hey lisa another suggestion is to use a wide tooth comb instead of a brush on your hair to prevent the pulling of hair...also many have cut their hair short to prevent the pulling of hair while brushing it and also to make it look thicker while its in this falling out stage...good luck!!

hugs
