Hi,
I am just getting started in the process. I filled out my informational package and sent it back to the Cleveland Clinic.  Can you tell me how long your process was there from orientation to surgery??
Thanks for your input, I am not good at waiting!!

DEPENDS ON WHAT YOUR INSURANCE REQUIRES, I HAVE MMO IT REQUIRES 6 MONTHS I WENT TO MY ORIENTATION MEETING APRIL AND I AM HAVING SURGERY NOV. I COULD HAVE DONE IT OCT IF I HAD KNOW I WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROVED AS SOON AS I WAS, ONE DENIAL AND APPROVAL TOOK 20 DAYS. GOOD LUCK YOU ARE PICKING A GREAT HOSPITAL, WHO IS THE SURGEON YOU ARE CHOOSING?

I dont have a dr yet, nor have I been to the orientation.
I have Caresource and have already completed my 9 months supervised diet which they require.
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date, 2009 is definitely going to be  a new year for you!!

Cool then you are almost there... Dr Shauer is very nice and my research shows him to be very good at what he does.  Are you approved yet? My sister has caresource and she will be finished with her 9 months December I wondered if it will be hard for her to get approved. Keep me updated. Thanks

Susan,

Like a previous poster said, it all depends on your insurance.  I had my seminar last October 15th, then went through their binge eating group.  I had my surgery on February 5th.

If you're not good at waiting, you might not want to see Dr. Schauer.  He's excellent at what he does, and I'm glad I choose him, but he's ALWAYS running behind!  Whenever I know I'm going to be seeing him, I schedule my whole day up there.  The first time I met him, he was 6 hours late!!  But, like I said, if you want the best in the business, you won't be disappointed.

Good luck on your journey!

Veronica

I agree with you about Dr Shauer being the best and I always have to wait. But he is totally  worth that wait. I have seen him twice already and waited no less then 4 hours . The first time was something like 5 to 6 hrs and I have to see him again on the 12th.  I think that the reason he is always late is because he is spending so much time with his paitents and that is ok with me. Makes me feel better knowing he will take his time on me as well.

Veronica...

I know what you mean about the long waiting time for Dr. Schauer, but the hospital (bariatric floor) issues "time cards" now to patients who have appointments.  When you check in at the desk, you are given a card with the time you arrived, your appointment time, and when you are finished with your appointment, you hand it back to the reception desk and they stamp the time you left on it.  I think that a lot of patients were complaining about the long wait for appointments, and now they (Cleveland hospital) is trying to shorten these long waits as much as they possibly can.

Wow!  Wish I would have known this last Monday when I went up there!  But, I wasn't waiting on Dr. Schauer last week, I was waiting on the nutritionist!!  I was wondering, though, just how does this new technique help keep Dr. Schauer on time??  I would like to be able to go up there just one time and NOT have to pay the maximum for parking!!

Thanks for the info!

I'm not sure how it works, except that maybe the schedulers for Dr. Schauer see to it that he only has a certain amount of time to spend with each of his patients, and allows more time for some of his assistants to help out.  He does surgeries in the mornings on certain days of the week. I don't really know.  I'll have to ask the receptionists when I go up for my next fill on Nov 11th.

With everything Dr. Schauer has on his plate in one given week, it's a wonder he doesn't meet himself coming and going!

The first time I was issued one of those cards I forgot to turn it back in to the reception, I had waited so long for the doctor and was so glad to finally have my appointment over with I completely forgot about the card  that I had placed inside my folder. Opps. :)
