I'll be there to answer questions people might want to ask someone who has already had surgery...

wow... I was totally impressed by Dr Anderson.   I went in there with one mind set and came out with a totally different mind set.

That's why I always tell people to go to several info sessions. I went to 3 different ones. They are free and you can see the docs and meet 'real' people in perso not just here on line and talk to them about how things really are life after WLS.   I might be wrong but I think the leaders in the Dayton area still Doc Rita, Kettering and Dr Maguire MVH. You can't go wrong with either of them.
Good Luck in your search.

Yep, I think she's great.  She has the necessary surgical skills, a sound general medical background (PhD in neurophysiology before she went to med school), AND an understanding of the struggles associated with obesity.  I think she also has a very realistic view of WLS and life afterward (e.g., that not everyone is a good candidate for lap surgery (and that she will NOT risk a leak just to avoid opening someone up), that not everyone will lose ALL of the excess weight, that re-gain is a reality for many oif we stray from the "rules", that not everyone can be a size 6, that people are human and are GOING to snac****asionally, and that people need to be able to LIVE with their choice of WLS... which means the patient making the decision, not the surgeon.)  She can be a bit rushed in the office sometimes, but she will always stop and take whatever time you need if you let her know you have questions!

I couldn't agree with you more.  I also liked her unbiased approach to procedure selection.  Since she does all of them, she presents them equally, allowing the patient to weigh the pros and cons themself.  All that's missins is her doing the DS laproscopically, but I believe it's just a matter of time.

I went to seminars for ALL the local docs, and Dr. Rita was my pick HANDS DOWN, mostly for all the same reasons Lora lists above.

I actually went in wanting to know more about the DS.  After about 15 minutes into her presentation I was really getting this awesome vibe from her in regards to how she approached obesity.
I was also very concerned about how I've heard alot of her patients have to be opened up.  She even addressed that in regards to how if she didnt feel 100% confident about being leak free, she opens the patient up to make sure.
I wanted to know more about the DS and she really went into full detail about it.
She also talked about some things with the RNY that I was not aware of.  She mentioned that if a doctor stated that your pouch would eventually stretch over time, then you should find another doctor because if done properly, the pouch should never stretch due to the area where they cut it. (if a pouch stretches, then it's because they are doing it the old way.
now i just need someone from HR to confirm that everything is still covered next year and I'll be all set when my 6 month diet is over in 3 months
