B12 Deficiency? Anyone??
Ok, I am a bundle of nerves and need some answers. I am either have a B12 problem, or I have MS. For almost 2 weeks, I have had vision loss, numb/tingly arm and hand, parts of my face, and now starting on my leg. I have been dizzy, very lightheaded and things are getting worse. I went to the ER last week, had cat scan, MRI/MRA, and they said I did not have a stroke, follow-up with PCP. I am seeing him Monday. Today I saw an ophthalmologist, who diagnosed Optic Neuritis, and suggested I either have MS or perhaps a B12 deficiency. I told her of my RNY, and that led her to the vitamin theory. I am also on blood thinners, due to a history of blood clots, and have some other factors with my blood.
Anyone go through anything like this after GBS? Just curious if a vitamin problem can cause these type of symptoms.
Thanks,
Michelle

I have not had the specific types of prolems you are describing, but vitamin deficiencies definitely CAN cause all sorts of prolems, including those you describe. Do you have any sublingual B12 tablets? They are a very easy way to increase your B12 without having to get injections, and you could start taking them right away.
I hope you get this all straightened out very soon. It sounds very scary.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Michelle you went through the same surgical program I did, and if there is a proven absence of a stroke, it really sounds like a B-12 defincency.
Outside of routine bloodwork there is a urinary test I think called MMA, to see how your body is using B-12. I've heard of people who have to change to monthly injections of B-12 when the sublingual tabs don't work for them anymore. Good luck, D

I was just popping in to see how the stuff in my home state was and I saw your post. I have a B-12 deficiency. I am dizzy and light headed but that hasn't been linked to this. Who knows. I do know that I trip over my right foot and I nurapathy (or however it's spelled) where I feel pressure and stuff if you touch my lower leg but it just tingles. I would suggest seeing your PCP ASAP to get your levels checked. I have had 3 injections so far and I am getting better with the leg. I can't take the sub-lingual due to sweetener allergies and that is how I got in this position. Good luck with all of this. It's not fun.
