I had Med Mut - my experience was that mine wanted the 6 month medically supervised diet .  Other than that my comorbidities were helpful in proof that I needed it. The staff in our Bariatric surgeon's office are very good at making sure everything is in place before they send it in.  Mine took a little less than two weeks because they asked for more documentation from my primary who did the supervised diet.  Others that I know from my group took about a week.  Good luck - and I can relate to your nervousness!  I was going bonkers - couldn't concentrate on anything but hearing from the surgeons office with the verdict!  Lots of prayers went up too!

They mailed my paper work last week said there was too much to fax today is the only day I havent called and bugged the insurance company as of yesterday they still havent received the paperwork. I did the 6 months nutriton and all test that are required at Cleveland Clinic and although they said I didnt need to I am going to continue with nutrition until I am approved. Thanks for the reply makes me feel a little better. But still reaaaaaaaaaaaally nervous :)

I had MMO when I had open RNY almost 5 years ago.  Here's what my time line was like:
9/22 paper work sent in
9/24 in the MMO system
10/8 MMO doctor's review
10/10 VERBAL approval
10/18 WLS doc and I both recieved the approval letter (letter dated 10/10)
10/22 recieved my date for WLS from docs
I would call and make sure your paper work is in the system. I called every few days to check and make sure everythign was going as planed. I got a CLAIM NUMBER that also helped each time I called.
Good Luck,
Robin

wow that was fast I am praying the same thing happens with me. I had alot of other things that have went on with my health since I started this in March. Had I not started this process and the doctors not insisted that I have a EGD then they would have never found the tumor in my stomach until it was too late. (they say they got it all out) I have to have my stomach removed when I have the surgery so that might speed things up too.  Thanks for the reply.

I am currently doing my 6 months of WW for my MMOH approval.  Surgeon's office will be submitting for approval on 10/16.  I'll keep you posted!  One nice thing about MMOH is they are the only insurance company (that my surgeon accepts) that will take WW in place of doctor supervised.  And they have a rebate program with WW so you can get $50 back for every 13 wks you do!  So overall, I only paid $140 for 26 weeks!  But you have to call a special number to register.  Good luck!!

I had MM and it gave me no problems at all. You have to follow the protocol and do everything to the letter. I gave more info than they ask for and that seemed to speed it along. I even sent in my food lists from the six month supervised diet. Make sure your primary care doc writes a good letter with lots of details also. Good luck and God Bless.
