I HAVE LOST EVERYTHING.......

The recent damaging storm winds Sunday evening (9/14/08) resulted in multiple power glitches.  After numerous attempts to restart my computer.....am horrified to find my hard drive crashed.

I have lost everything!  Medical information, banking info, addresses, important dates, calendar, my support group information, flyers, business cards, you name it......everything!

I ask patience for it will take time to rebuild the support group information.  I can access my email via the web with my husband's laptop.

Please email me with your information, address, phone, email address(s), surgery type & date.  [email protected]

I realize there are things in peoples lives which far surpass my problem, however devastating none the less.

Hi Terri,

Sorry to hear about your hard drive problems. Does the drive spin up at all? If it does you could try putting it in the freezer for a few hours. I was able to recover 500GB of stuff off an unreadable external hard drive that way.

Terri - my angel - how awful to lose all that information.  I have had a concern about all of my stuff being gone. I had my husband turn everthing off so we wouldn't get a power surge if our power went off.  We had many moments of diming and blinking lights, but not loss of power.  I have some of my photos on a cd and lots of the classes I teach on either a cd or jump drive.  I shutter to think of all the work that you have put in there.  I never heard of putting you hard drive in a freezer, but it's worth a try.  I'll be saying a prayer that you recover your information.

Computer crashes kill me!  So sorry you lost all that information.  I would be devastated if I had that happen to me-everything is stored in my computer too.  I hope you can find things once your back up- old e-mails with important files, etc...

This is a little technical but a PC shop might be able to help.

What you can do is to have them take the drive and see if they can make it a secondary drive to see if they can access it. They have to connect it to a PC. There are parts you can buy at like a best nuy or microcenter to make an internal drive an external drive. Then if the drive isn't fried they might be able to access the drive enough to copy the files to a cd or flash drive to transfer them.

It may or may not work. If you have another computer the cost to do this yourself runs about 60 for the parts.

Time hours

It is important to backup and have extra storage. I have an 8gig flashdrive for all my important records.  Cost me 14.99.

That holds thousaands of files. You can get them at Microcenter in Columbus or Sharonville

luckely my cpu was off however my dsl modem wasn't so lucky...time warner is going to charge me out the wazoo for it i just know they are.  we got our power on after 2 days...when it came on i thought everything was unplugged however i overlooked the modem...ugh!  I still have a lot of family without power here (around wilmington in clinton county)  my moms house is missing her porch roof and a lot of  the shingles off the house.  My children's school lost part of the roof and their first day back was today.  They worked diligently to get that fixed.   A tree fell on my neighbor's house.  I could go on and on.  Clinton County looks like a disaster zone.  There are still tree's in the roads.  1 school still has no power either.  I got pretty bad here.  On CNN they said the wind got up to 78 here but i saw somewhere it got over 80mph.
I just got my cable back today.  Yippie!
