It doesn't SEEM like a whole year, but...
... I had my RNY one year ago today. It has been a year of ups and downs for me.
Physically, it has been a difficult year: I had problems with the incision healing, had a terrible time getting in enough fluids at first, lost about half of my hair (no exaggeration), I developed a hernia ("alien") that I had fixed, then I had the panniculectomy separate from the hernia repair, and now am preparing to have the mons list and brachioplasty in 2 1/2 weeks. Whew!
On the more positive side, though, I have lost 155 pounds, I have SO much more energy than I had before surgery, I'm wearing clothes I have not fit into in YEARS, I fit easily into a small commuter airplane seat this week (!), people treat me differently (they no longer treat me as if I was stupid just because I was fat), etc.
I have struggled with emotional ups and downs as well: on one hand, I am excited to know that I can satisfy a chocolate cravibng by just eating 2 or 3 M&Ms and walk away from the bag and that fried foods like french fries, onion rings, etc. have no appeal for me; on the other hand, I still cannot have cookies in the house or I eat them, and I STILL hate to do any exercise other than using my recumbent bike... so I don't. I'm sure if I had been more diligent in exercising, I would have lost more weight this year, but being down more than 150 pounds and being only 30-35 pounds from my goal weight in 12 months is still pretty damn good in my book!
I can't wait until Dr Rita gets her new website online and I can go out there and see my before and after pics!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Lora - congratulations on your one year anniversary. I believe that Iyou were probably one of the new surgery posts on the Ohio board that I began reading when I started my journey to WLS. I have followed your progress and you really have had great results in spite of the problems. So have a great celebration - you have earned it! Best of luck on your other surgeries coming soon.
