anyone have surgery with Dr. Maguire?
I am sched for Sept 9th with Dr. Maguire for RNY. If anyone had surgery with him tell me a few things: Did you have a PICC line inserted before surgery?
How about did you have a NG tube in your nose after surgery? Or a Tube into your stomach after the surgery? How many days were you in the hospital?
Thanks so much!

Dr. Maguire was my Assistant with Dr. Rita Anderson when he was still at Kettering.
I did not have a PICC line but some people do.
The NG tube was removed before I work up. I did have 2 drains on each side that were taken out at the office at my 2 week check up. I was in the hospital about 3 days I could have stayed another but I didn't. If you think you want that extra day in the hospital it's no trouble as long as you leave in the IV.
Your in GREAT HANDS.

I had Dr Teel who works with Dr Maguire. I had the PICC line and glad that I did. With all the connecting and disconnecting lines, it was better than poking me multiple times. It was not without it's problems, mainly from the nurse taking three attempts at getting it inserted. I also had some shoulder pain afterward that was cured with a warm compress. Dr Teel was a little upset that I didn't call when I had the shoulder pain. He said it could have been something else.
When I woke up, I didn't have an NG tube, but I did have several in my stomach. One JP tube, J-tube and two for a pain ball. I only went home with the J-tube.
I was in the hospital a total of 4 days.
Good luck, you are in great hands.

I had DS done by Dr Maguire in Dec 07. He is fantastic. His quiet demeanor is quite calming and I had total confidence in him. His office staff is the best. Every call or email I have made is answered promptly and you can just tell they really care about their patients.
The only thing I worried about before surgery were all the tubes I knew I was going to have. I can assure you they aren't nearly as bad as our presurgery minds like to make us believe. The picc line was not painful going or coming out, and I was very grateful for it. They are able to give meds and draw blood through it so that negates the need for getting stuck over and over again. I had several tubes when I woke up from surgery, but only went home with one, which was removed at my 2 week follow-up. I was asleep when they put them all in and even though awake when they came out, it was a little weird feeling but painless.
I was in the hospital for 4 days and the hospital staff at MVH was wonderful also.
Try to relax and not dwell on what you fear and just know that life is going to be sooooooo much better in just a short time. You just can't even imagine, before surgery, how much your life is going to change for the good afterwards.
Good luck to you and know that you have an amazing Dr. taking care of you.
