I am just getting started with the whole process. I have my first evaluation appointment with my doctor on Aug. 27Th. I have all my papers ready and all my documented letters from my main doctor has been faxed over to my  weight loss physician. I'm just worried that I won't get approved once my doctor submits everything to my insurance. Both of my doctors feel that I will be approved because my BMI is over 50 and I'm having weight related health issues now. I'm so nervous, scared , and excited all at the same time. Is this normal? Everyone else here is a lot farther into their journey, and I'm already freaking out...

Welcome Lisa,

You have made the first big step in deciding to help yourself by having WLS.  I was scared and excited all at the same time too.  I am not quite 4 months out from my RNY, and still have those feelings too!!!  I think it is a fairly normal response to such a life changing event. 

You might want to check out the BMI OVER 50 forum also... it is a great place, and usually has a lot more stuff.  Everyone there is great too.

Good luck with eval appt, and all the insurance stuff.  Have you checked with your insurance first to see if they cover WLS?  It might do you good to call them before your appt to see what all they require.

Thank you for replying. I'm glad I'm not alone in how I'm feeling. Before I called for an appointment with Dr. Dan, I went to a seminar, and I was talking to him about my insurance. I'm on Medicaid and he told me to switch to Buckeye because he accepts Buckeye. So I changed as soon as I could. I thought that since he accepted Buckeye that I didn't need to call them to see if they cover WLS! Maybe I still better!! Thanks Caroline

You're just a step behind me in the process....waiting for insurance approval seems like forever and yet its pretty quick.  Once your approved the process speeds up even more.  I'm having all the same thoughts that you are, but I know deep down that this is the best decision for me and I'll be healthier for it.  You've made a good choice too.

 I don't live too far from you (since I am in Warren).  Congratulations on finding this board and on taking steps to improve your health.  Being over 50 bmi has it's own challenges.  I started well over myself.  Keep talking and we're always here for you!

Hi Lisa - welcome to the board.  We have all said the same thing about being scared and excited at the same time.  I was sure that I would never make it to my surgery day, but you will be so happy when it is all over and on your way to losing weight.  I am from Tallmadge so you aren't very far away.  Good luck with your process of getting aproved.  You can get so much advice her so feel free to let us know how we can help you!

Yeah, we aren't far from each other at all. I bowl in tallmadge almost every weekend..I'm not very good, and I huff and puff after my first game, but I have fun and it's exer****lol Thanks for your help. I'm sure as time goes on, I'll have tons of questions..

Hi Lisa!! I'm right there with you.  I've already sent in my 1st appeal to insurance denial.  I'm excited, anzious and VERY impatient.  They said it would be 15 days before they decided on the appeal.  Well this past Friday was 15 days and still nothing.  I'm a wreck.  This is my first time commenting on someone and i'm new to the process as well.  Maybe we could keep in touch and help support each other in the process?  I don't have any friends on here and i have TONS of questions.
