Newbie in Toledo

Hi all-

I'm new to this website and just starting to become familar with the blogs, profiles, etc...so bear with me.

I am from the Toledo area and am a candidate for GB surgery.  My paperwork has been sent in  for approval and I am anxiously awaiting my insurance companies response. 

I have been visiting my primary care physician the past several months as part of the approval process.  It has really made me aware of my eating habits, lack of exercise, and how my health issues have impacted my weight gain.  While I'm still not losing any weight successfully I am working hard to eat the right things, exercise, and remain patient for my surgery date.

Dr. White will be my surgeon.  I have had surgery done by him in the past  (gallbladder) and I feel confident that he'll do a great job and am hoping my recovery will go as well as the last time.

So  realistically, how long of a wait should I have from approval to surgery date? 

Hello there! I am also in Toledo. 

I am not having my surgery here though.  I am currently waiting on my surgery date with Dr. Price at Mount Carmel West in Columbus. 

I dont know how long of a wait it is for Dr. White.  I know many who have had him as a surgeron and said he does great work.

Here's to keeping our fingers crossed that we will hear from them with our surgery dates soon!

Great to hear from you.  I've seen from the website that many people have had their surgery in Mount Caramel with great success.  Good Luck!!

Do you have kids?  When I get nervous that's the only thing that concerns me....what if something goes wrong because my kids would be devastated?  and then I think optimistically and think ....what if I do great and within just a few months I can do more with my kids than ever before.  The thought of not being tired all the time and getting worn out easily during a simple workout sounds wonderful to me.  I'm taking the optimistic approach.

Have you had a hard time convincing your family and friends that you're doing the right thing? 

Sorry I messed up and put a post here that was suppossed to be somewhere else so I deleted it. I am from marysville I am going to Dr. teel in Dayton I was going to go to Mount Carmel and yes the surgeons there seem great I saw Dr choban in the seminare. I only decided to go to Dayton because the Dr's there also seem great and I have heard some negative things about the hospital at Mount Carmel, and I hate going to Mount Carmel all those one way streets make me crazy LOL. Hubby said its because I am a crazy driver plus when I went for my seminare I was lost in Mount Carmel because nobody could tell me where I was suppossed to be. Anyway I wanted less stress so I decided on Dayton Miami Valley hospital. I am going for my 1st sleep study today and the second on the 12th and I will then be ready to submit to insurance I cant wait I just hope I can sleep knowing there are cameras on me. I am so affraid I am gonna talk or worse fart or something well ya know I always think of everything . Well good luck I hope you get your approval I will keep my fingers crossed for ya.

You are so funny about the sleep study.  Don't worry...if something embarassing happens they'll never tell you:)  I have severe sleep apnea- had to do two sleep studies to confirm my condition and the appropriate sleeping aparatus for me.  I sleep so much better, but it still hasn't helped my weight much.  I am getting anxious about surgery and all the great possibilities it will bring for my health. 

Keep me posted on your progress....sounds like our insurance approvals and surgeries may happen around the same time...

 

 So glad that you are going with Dr. White.  He is just wonderful!!  You will not find a better support system anywhere than with his staff.  We have a support group meeting tomorrow night and you should consider attending.  It is the first Wed of every month and it is in the Promedica bldg on Woodley.
Insurance companies have 30 working days to respond.  What insurance do you have?  I know there are some that are very fast and others take the 30 days.

I've been wanting to attend one of the support meetings.  What time is tomorrow's meeting and do I have to tell them I'm coming ahead of time.  Maybe I can contact Kristi in the morning.  My insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield.  My paperwork  was sent in on July 24th.  I hope I hear from them soon.

 It starts at 6pm and no, you do not need to call ahead.  I had my surgery over a year and half ago (12/06).  I started at 261 and I am now 140.  You are welcome to message me with any questions or concerns you have.  I think I may go to the support group tomorrow so hope to see you there!!

Thank you- I would love that.  I am 239 and my goal is to be 125-130 after surgery.  I'm only 5'1" so it seems to be a realistic goal. 

Just a little info about me and my family...I live just outside of Toledo in Michigan.  I'm 37, married to my High School Sweetheart, and have two children.  My son is 11 and my daughter is 8. 

I have a full time career that keeps me pretty busy, and the kids sports keep me even busier, but I have a wonderful family and am doing this so I will be around a long time to enjoy them. 

I will probably see you tomorrow night.  Is it in the same area that Dr. White does his initial seminar for those considering bypass surgery?  I attended a meeting at Woodley back in February (informational not support group).

Tell me al little about you....Your photo looks great.  It's hard to believe you once weighed 260 pounds.  I guess thats the exciting thing about GB surgery and how your hard work with food and exercise  have truly improved your health.  Great Job!!!
