spouse a smoker?

 i am having major issues i quit smoking over 2 years ago and my boyfriend still smokes i hate the smell and i just dont want it around me he ignores me and smokes in the bathroom and down stairs Ummm hello i can still smell it it is still in the house but because it is his house i cant do a thing about it... he is a recovering alcoholic and i never brought a rink into his house or drank around him out of respect why cant he do the same for me? I dont want an Ulcer i am still trying to recover from my surgery on 7-22-08... thanks for letting me vent let me know if you have any ideas please thanks so much

I know how ya feel I haven't had my surgery yet but I did quit smoking for it. My husband smokes outside but he smokes in my car and I hate the smell of it. They are men and they don't care they think everything is all about them all the time. He tells me well you smoked yeah and I didn't realize how bad it smelled. The only thing I can say is talk to him about it and go from there but remember they don't comprehend things as well as we do.

please....give hubby time. At least he smokes outside.....what's he think about your surgery?....did he cause the weight problem too?

You do  need to give him time and also realize that smoking is an addiction and it's hard to just quit. And getting angry with him won't help either of you.
My only concern is, my doctor told me that after my surgery, I can't be around any smoke at all. He said that the after smoke can cause me to develop an infection and it could be fatal. Once I get approved for surgery, my son has to stop smoking all together, or he has to move out. He is slowly stopping now. He is cutting back and I appreciate him doing this for me. He still may be moving out, but he says he loves his mommy and won't do anything to harm my health! He's my biggest fan and supporter...

i think people misunderstood i don't care if he quits smoking he can smoke forever i just don't want to be exposed to it my dr. has told him i am not allowed to be around it jim just doesn't care his attitude is it is my house and i am a smoker deal with it if you don't like it move out. that is what he has told me, and he didn't agree with my surgery but he was supportive after it was done he makes comments like it isn't my fault you have a pouch now

It may be his house, but if his smoking is going to effect your health, he should respect that and smoke outseide. Otherwise, maybe you should do what he says and move out...
