Back again after 6 years...

I had my original RNY 6 years ago.  I originally lost 70 lbs but everything stopped and for 2 years I thought that I was doing something wrong, then found out by two different doctors that my original surgery wasn't performed correctly.  Sure, they could do a revision but I needed much better insurance than the medicaid I was on.

Back then I was on disability and was very suicidal, I just went through all this for a big fat failure.  Alas, I never gave up and was bound and determined to make my life better so I could get a revision.  In the last 4 years, I went to college, got a degree, got a job with insurance and worked to do everything I could so I wouldn't put on more weight.  I succeeded!

So here I am today, wondering my next step to get a revision.  I looked into my insurance now through work and it says in big ole bold lettering, WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY NOT COVERED.

Talk about a slap in the face.

However, this isn't your typical scenerio to having the original WLS, right?  This is a revision of that and I am having complications, I still qualify with my BMI, co-morbidites, etc.  The doctor who took on a lot of my original surgeons patients and did a ton of revisions from him is still operating his practice and looks like he is still doing what he said he could do for me 4 years ago...  a revision.

I'm calling him this week, just to make sure.

But boy am I scared, I am not sure I can handle another rejection and go through the whole life changing event again only for it not to work or come out worse than I am now.

I know the biggest thing that helped me was coming to this website.  I was one of the original visitors and was on an anniversary committee.  I stopped coming here for a very long time because it hurt too much to see everyone succeed....and I wasn't.

So I guess I am back again, hoping to have the same wonderful support I had before and hope to give others support on their own journey.

Wow, listen to me writing a book.... dunno where I was going with this, but wanted to reintroduce myself into the community and see how much this whole site and industry has changed.  Wow!

WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!!!!
I would start first by calling your insurance and talking to them about it. To them WLS is WLS no matter if it's first time or a revision. if it is not covered it's not covered and there is no way around it UNLESS your company changes the coverage.  Remember to write down who you talked to and their title and if there is a suppervisor you can talk to if you don't get the answers you need.
You should also talk to your benefits person and ask them also about complications due to a past operation.
Keep up posted and good luck,
Robin

Thanks for the comments, I really appreciate the support.  I heard back from this first doctor, and he says that he is too busy and not doing any more revisions.  Boooo Hooooo!!!

So I am waiting to find out from this second surgeon if he is willing to do something.

Anyone know of any other doctors in Ohio that do revisions?

Hi Michelle, I'm just catching up on your last post which was nearly a year ago. Where are you now with all this? Did you get your revision?
