I have read several postings, sites and more sites.  How are you supposed to know what to eat  I don't remember anything about being able to eat fruit or not? How does a person decide what to eat and what not to eat?  I know that I am not getting enough protein but I can't eat much meat and eggs are ok, and I can't stand low fat cottage cheese, so does that mean I should eat reg. cottage cheese? I am so sick of yogurt and pudding.  I am craving things like refried beans, salsa stuff I don't know if I can eat or not? I guess I am just very overwhelmed because every meat I try makes me sick.  I see all of these recipes but they all have different protein powders in them, how do you know whidch powder is best?  I tried "EAS Vanilla powder" and it was gross, so now I have this huge jug of powder going to waste.  I have  found several sites on here that have recipes but how do I kknow which ones I should try and which ones to stay away from?  How many carbs and fat should I take in a day?  I see all these dessert recipes?  I apoligize for blabbering on and on, I am just so confused and lost!

Did your surgeon not give you instructions on what to eat post-op?!?  If not, I would call his office and ask them, because every surgeon is different about how soon you can have certain foods.  (Some surgeons, for example require several weeks of liquids only after surgery whereas mine had me eating scrambled eggs, cream of wheat, FS pudding before I was even released from the hospital after my open surgery!)  WHat you should be eating (individually or in recipes) will depend on how quickly he wants you eating solid foods and how long he wnats you to wait on certain foods (like meats, fruits, nuts, etc.).

Individual tastes vary so much on what protein powders are "good".  Try ordering some samples online until you find out which ones you like and can tolerate.

You can have refried beans if they are low fat or fat free (and once you add a little salsa you won't even notice the missing fat!)  You should probably not eat fruit until you are farther out (but, again, ask your surgeon's office).

You and I had the same surgeon, and I had my band put in on July 1st.  Dr. Schauer and the nutritionist gave me a list of foods to eat post-op.  Did you get the blue folder when you went for your orientation?  If so, look under the tab for nutrition, and in there is a list of foods for each phase you'll be on.  This should give you an idea on what, when and how much food to eat post-op.  I don't know if yours would be different than mine since you had the RNY and I had the lap-band.  I am 13 days out from my surgery, and am already on my mushies phase and can go to the soft food phase in another week.  Read through the information they gave you at the Cleveland Clinic on what you can eat now.

A protein powder I really like is the Unjury brand.  I have the chocolate, unflavored, vanilla, and have tried the chicken soup, too.  In my opinion, they are all good.  You have to order these online at www.unjury.com .

Hope this helps.
