exersise help

Help !!!!! I am 7 weeks post-op and am needing help with exersise. ..I am walking 30 minutes a day and feeling great but I need to start doing more....I am not working so i really cant afford to join a gym...needing some info on what I can do...My doctor says no sit-ups or crunches till 4 months out !!!!!!

Are you doing any work with hand weights or the exercise bands?  It isn't aerobic exercise, but will help you tone and build some muscle (and might raise your heart rate a little).   Does you home have stairs or is there somewhere you could go to and go up and down the steps?  That's GREAT exercise!   Is there a public pool near you where you could swim or do water aerobics (I know that being in public in a swimming suit might be an issue depending on your current weight... I know that I would not have been caught dead in one this time last year!)?  Do you have a bicycle (or could you borrow one from a friend)?  I have a bad knee so my own exercise is limited to things that are easy on the knee (I bought a recumbent bike for home and LOVE that), and I don't have access to a gym, either, so I know it's tough to find ways. Why not walk twice a day now?  Or ride a bike?  Or do the water aerobics or swimming thing?  There are many options.  I was exercising regularly before hand with aerobics videos and on an ellipse machine, so took my aerobics videos back up again about 6 weeks out.  Gosh, they are easier to do.  :-)

Failing any of that, turn on the music on the radio and dance for half an hour!  That's fun, works up a sweat and doesn't cost a thing!

I use my hand weights before and during my walk...didnt think about walking twice a day !!!
I do have a bike but I dont feel like I am getting as much from that as i do with walking !!!
And i do work out in my garden ...so I guess I am working more muscle that i thought ...
