Hey there...someone drew this to my attention so of course I have to reply again. You are right I am very supportive of Dr. Sonnanstine, I have spent a great deal of time with him and watch him put together an awesome group of professionals at the Tristate Surgical Weight Loss Center in Florence, Ky.
He is one of the youngest surgeons in the area yet he has an extensive learning curve. Dr. Sonnanstine is the only bariatric surgeon in this area to my knowledge, who spent a year in fellowship training at the very prestigious Tufts New England. in Mass. learning nothing but bariatric surgery..studying under one of the best surgeons in the U.S. There he performed gastric bypass as well as gastric banding. He is now a very active proctor for Ethicon, part of Johnson and Johnson here in Cincinnati ...this company is well known for it's surgical instruments ..one more popular being the staple gun used in bypass surgery. In October they released their own version of the band called the "Realize Band"...being a proctor is teaching or evaluating the use of an instrument..in this case Dr. Sonnanstine proctors other surgeons on the use of the realize band.
He himself has placed many of those ( if you would like the number I am sure I can get that for you) He has on staff two dieticians,(one being an exercise expert) two psychologist, in the process of hiring an experienced bariatric nurse..and is now planning on extending his staff ..this will include another surgeon in the very near future..He is busy daily seeing patients, operating.. as well as conducting his own educational classes..He is the Medical Director and is constantly striving to make things better..
Until you have actually been accepted then gone through the program you can't possible rate how well it is ran..I know the patients attend 5 pre-op classes as well as post op..Dr. Sonnanstine believes in a great deal of individualize education. I also have seen him give his time to sit and talk to patients who may be struggling. He is very compassionate..very understanding, however...he does expect a great deal out of his patients as he does his staff and the rest of the staff around the hospital that may have contact with his patients..
I personally have nothing against Dr. Mobley or any other surgeon for that matter....have never heard Dr. Sonnanstine speak ill of another surgeon as a matter of fact it is something he absolutely will not tolerate from me or his staff...I respect him so much for being that way..
I just wanted to set the record straight on his program..I believe in it so much that I went through it with my husband and am so excited Dr. Sonnanstine is placing the band in him on June 16th......I believe in him and his philosophies...and am extremely proud to be considered part of his team.. So thanks for opening up that plug..lol
