New here! Info wanted on Med Mutual, Cleve Clinic, etc...
Hi!
I have medical mutual, supermed plus. My best friend also has medical mutual but has a weight loss surgery exclusion. The policy also states that you have to have a BMI of over 40 for the past 2 years or over 35BMI with sleep apnea, hypertension or diabetes. If your policy allows it, then all medical mutual insurances require a strict 6 month diet. From my understanding, they are a stickler for this diet. They are adamant about it being documented. I had my surgery done in Dayton at premier bariatric associates and their insurance lady in the office provided me with a paper to take to each supervised diet appointment for my PCP to fill out and for me to submit. They also require you to lose weight during these 6 months....even if it's just a couple of pounds. I ended up losing 4lbs. Also, from my understanding, medical mutual covers ALL forms of weight loss surgery so please make sure you investigate your options to see which one fits you best. I had the duodenal switch which was, for me, the very best option. I couldn't be happier!
I also went to the $85 seminar at bariatrix clinic in Groveport. I would NOT recommend them. The doctor flat out lied to me about the duodenal switch surgery and also said that I'd never get insurance approval. Approval took only 5 business days. And, that's just a couple of things. Suffice it to say that I had a horrible experience with them and always advise others to avoid them at all cost!
I looked into surgery for a while too before I decided to "take the plunge". I'm 35 and have three children and a very supportive husband too. He's been wonderful. And, that really makes a difference.
I wish you all the best! If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

~Surgeon's Goal of Normal BMI reached at 6 months Post Op~
~Personal Goal Range achieved at less than 10 months Post Op~
HI!
Congratulations on making such an important decision. I am 3 years post-op now and have lost over 200 pounds....and am keeping it off!
When looking into programs make sure that it is a program! There are a lot of places that will do the surgery but you must be committed for life! It is not a quick fix.....it is a tool to help you lose your weight.
I had my surgery at University Hospital in Cleveland. You might want to check your plan and see what hospital accepts it. When I was starting out I was going to St. V.'s until they told me that they did not accept our Medical Mutual plan. I am so glad that it turned out as it did because University Hospital is an excellent program! The after care program is bar none! The doctors, nurses, dieticians, nurse physcologists, etc. all come to the meetings! They do not require money up front! They also reply quickly to any questions you may call about!
As you can see I am totally satisfied!
Need any more info let me know!
