LOOKING FOR SUPPORT GROUP

Hi, I am moving to Solon next week from Florida, very excited about it too. I did post a message a while back asking for any support groups, I know there's not one in Solon, but if anyone could tell me the nearest one, I would love to go. I am 2 and a half years post op and have been attending my monthly meetings, here in Florida, religiously ever since and need to continue the momentum. Hope to hear back from somebody soon with some info. I REALLY REALLY need to go. Thanks.

We have a great group in Akron at Akron General Hospital. Our meetings are 3rd Tuesday each month. Guest speakers and planned activities during the year. We are having Barbara Thompson speak this fall. A group of our ladies are running together and plan to do some special fun runs this year. We have a nice Christmas get together and our program is lead by Dr. Chlysta our surgeon, Cathy Burk the Certified Bariatric Nurse and Kim Knopp our dietitian. It's a great group! It would probably be a good 30 minute drive. There are many other groups in the area. Cleveland has several - possibly someone from those groups can add information for you. I am also in a small ladies group that tries to meet once a month. There are currently 7 of us, 1 from Cleveland, two from the Macadonia area, me from Akron, one from Canton, one from Warren and one from Canfield. Several are out at lease a year or so and the rest of us are 2-7 months out. We have meet in Macadonia several times, which would be the closest to you. We usually announce on this board when the next one is being planned. We would love to have you join us. In June, I will be in Hawaii so I can't make the next one. Welcome to the area!

Thanks so much for your reply. I did hear about the Akron meeting and I will probably give that a try, 30 mins is ok, that's what it takes me right now. If you could please let me know the exact details, address, and what room it's held in, and also the time of the meeting that would be a big help. I look forward to hearing back from you again soon and have a great trip in Hawaii, have you ever been there before, I was there for my honeymoon 21 years ago and still remember it like yesterday. Joann - yes we were in Hawaii in the 80's when our kids were young. We enjoyed it so much! About the meetings - held the 3rd Tues at 6:00 for information session for interested audience and 7pm for the post-ops session. Usually the information session runs over, but at the end of it he has the postops up on stage to answer questions. So some time after that the support meeting wil start. It is held at Akron General Hospital in the Conference center. Check out the www.akrongeneral.org for directions to the hospital and information about the Bariatric Center. If you park in the deck across from the main entrance you can see the entrance for the Conference center, to the left of the main door. There is also parking in front of the Conference Center.

Great, thanks. I checked out the details and got the directions, and am planning on being there for the July 15th meeting. Hope I get to meet you there. It's going to be strange walking into a meeting where I don't know anyone as I have been so used to most people at my current place. It will be my last meeting there tonight (Tues). We split into 2 groups every month, pre-op and up to 1 year, then 1 year plus post op and we have great discussions, do they do that there?

We are going to be spliting our group as it is getting really big. If you would like, I can meet you in the hallway of the conference room. You can private mail me at [email protected] prior to the meeting and I will introduce you to some of the leaders. What is taking you from Florida to Ohio? We usually see the opposite going on in our area. Most of our friends from church are leaving Ohio and plan to retire in Floriday! Hope everything goes well with your move. I know how that is! We left Ohio for seven years when my hubby's job changed - went to New Jersey. Came back 11 years ago because all of our family is here. Two moves were not fun! i finally got approved and will be having my surgery at st vincents however its not very convenient for me to go for the meetings, i was told that i should go check out akron generals support groups
