Hi everyone, I am at the end of my 6 month pre-op diet with a nutritionist and my employer is switch to Anthem BC/BS Ohio. I dont know which specific plan it is as of yet but this is who they got the best rates through.  Can anyone tell me if they cover bariatric surgery?  Just in your experience what the process was like with them? Any help would be great so I know what Im dealing with... Thanks!

They covered my lapband extremely well.  My biggest out of pocket was $355 for the anethesiaolgist .  I think I paid the hospital a little over $200 and ended up paying the surgeon nothing.

I hope such is my case as well.  I currently have Kaiser and I am looking at $4,000.00 Out of pocket!  What plan do you have with Anthem BC BS?

I have Anthem BC/BS and I have about 500.00 out of pocket. Hospital is 250.00 thats it. The insurance has been very good and they work and answer quickly.

It depends on your employer and what plan they choose.  My surgery was covered, but a lot of upfront costs were not.

I had Cigna and finished my six months with a nutritionist and Cigna turned me down.  I changed jobs and I now have BC/BS thru Discover Card. I am in Phoenix and we have a branch in Ohio also with the same insurance. I got approved in a week and didn't even have to have the Pschye eval. I had to pay $600 out of pocket deductible. The process was so much easier with BC/BS. I am from Canton, Ohio, by the way!

Hi there, I have Anthem, and they paid for my lap-band 100%.  I paid nothing.  I wish you the best of luck.

I have Anthem Ohio and they have paid everything with no extra limitations or pre-op requirements. I work at the hospital where I had the surgery so I had zero out-of-pocket.

I have them now and they have an exclusion to anything related to wls.  Just make sure your employer doesn't have a written exclusion.
