I am just starting to get going on this whole procedure, has anyone on here had the surgery at Riverside Hospital in Columbus performed by Stephan Myers? I think out of all that I researched he is the best option for me and I am looking to get gastric bypass done as well. I think out of all the options offered to me this is the best way for me to go. I would love some comments, encouragement anything on th is whole process. I have researched it for 8 years.

If you've been researching this for 8 years, you have probably considered everything that needs to be considered before making the decision on which surgery, etc.!  The processof getting into the operating room seems to be different for everyone (for some it's easier than for others) depending on insurance requirements, surgeon requiremenst and availability, etc..  Once I completed the 3 month "multidisciplinary" program required by my insurance and they actually GOT the fax of my whole file (50+ pages, and the first fax just disappeared somehow), I got approved in 3 days and was in surgery 2-3 weeks later.  Whatever it takes to get approved, I would say it is ABSOLUTELY worth every minute of frustration and any tears as well.  I'm 8.5 months out and (other than an uncomfortable incisional hernia from the open surgery) I feel great!  I'm down 130 pounds and 2 pounds from Onederland.  I can't remember the last time I was THERE! Wow that is fantastic Lora. See that's what I like to hear about, good, bad and the wonderful results. I just found out riverside won't take medicaid, so basically reading the forum post here on medicaid/medicare I found that out and called, so now I am going to the semiar at mt. carmel hospital here in columbus, which is one of the places the girl on there said they take. That is going to be my only hurdle to overcome. I know I can do it and I am certainly ready, even if I, like you, have to fax my 50+ pages 20 times I will make sure and stay on top of it. I am 265 and would like to end up around 150 so your story is very inspiring. I would like to get healthy more than lose weight. Thanks for the information.

I had Doctor Myers do my surgery on November 5th.   I just lost my 100th pound, with only 36 more to go!  I love Dr. Myers and his staff was pretty good too.  I had some issues with getting my phone calls answered very early out - not "I'm Sick" questions, just general info.  Dr. Myers is very caring and makes you feel great about your decision.  I loved the "one-stop" process that his program offers.  Dr. Myers also regularly attends his support group meetings.  Overall a great experience.  I have had no complications and feel that I made the right decision.  I would attend an information session, if you have not already.
