Looking for a support buddy-desperately in need:(
Hi,
I have posted a few questions in the main forum but this is my first visit to the local board. I live in West Chester and I had RNY surgery on the 28th of April. I know it will do wonderful things for me in the long run, but all i can think right now is, "what the heck did I do to myself???" Eating is a chore that I am very afraid of (afraid of eating the wrong thing and getting sick or rupturing my pouch) and half the time I am nauseated afterwards. I am gonna puke if I drink one more Isopure drink. I am just looking for someone to talk to (I have no family around and very few friends, noone who would understand) and help me. Thanks for reading:)
Cindi
Hi Cindi,
This is a great way to get support. I had my RNY on 4/16/2008, so I know what your feeling!! The eating will get easier. Have you tried the New Whey protein drinks, I think they are much better than the Isopure!!!, and smaller to. Its 42 grams of protein in 3 oz. I actually mix mine into a 20 oz bottle of water, and drink it slowly.
I'm here if you ever need to chat. Oh ya, you might want to check the RNY forum too, it is much busier than just the ohio one!!
Good luck with everything

Hi I am waiting to have my RNY on June 12th. I would love to chat with you. I don't have alot of answers you probbly know more than I but I am more than willing to be a friend. Who did your surgery? and where? I am sorry you are not feeling well from what I read it gets better in about 6 weeks. Looking forward to hearing from you
Cindi, I am a couple of months ahead of you and will be happy to chat with you at ANY time if I can be of assistance. The first few weeks are definitely the hardest. Focus on your protein and liquids first ... and try getting creative. The Isopures didn't go down well for me at all. I found I had to mix them with either Propel or Crystal Light. My SAVIOR was when I got my Magic Bullet Blender and started making GNC Whey Protein Shakes with Fat Free Milk. Sugar Free Popsicles also REALLY helped me at first. Are you getting in all your fluids? Is there any chance you could be dehydrated? I ask because constant nausea can be a sign of dehydration, and that quickly becomes a never-ending cycle: the dehydration makes you feel like you can't eat or drink and you just keep getting more and more dehydrated. Also, did your surgeon prescribe you anything for nausea. If not, you might call and see if they can give you something. I know lots of other post-ops who said these types of drugs were lifesavers for them right after surgery. You WILL get through this ... and in just a few short weeks it will all seem like a blip in the rearview mirror, I promise! (((HUGS)))
Hi all
Feeling better today....I had my surgery at Good Sam by Dr. Kerlakian in Cincinnati. He did prescribe me some Phenergan and it has helped some. I think I may be dehydrated as my urine output has been decreasing. I will need to fix that ASAP! I know it sounds like I am whining, but I have a hard time drinking protein shakes because they dont taste like I imagine a REAL chocolate shake should and it makes me gag. Does this make any sense to anyone? I mean, I cannot even stomach Slim fast(but that's also because it is in can:(
We're ALL here for youwhen ever you need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As the other poster said make sure you drink even if you can't eat keep up with WHATEVER fluid you can get in.
As for the shakes, make sure they are ICE COLD. Mix them with 1/2 the water amount then ICE CUBES pop it all in a blender and drink. I use abour 4 oz water and then abuot 6-8 ice cubes. Also you might want to try different brands. Get tne smallest package possible and try them. GNC used to let you return items as long as you had your reciept. In my first few months out I knew EVERYONE at GNC I was in there several times a week some times trying different brands and such.
Keep us posted.

Hi Cindi,
It does get easier. Are you in the soft/pureed stage yet? I lived on refried beans with melted cheese and sour cream and cottage cheese, soups, and SF pudding and jello during that time. I really got tired of shakes because I thought they tasted too sweet. Finally decided that milk mixws with CIB and a scoop of U jury unflavored worked best----graduated to some of the other mixtures later. Eggface on the main board has some great recipes.
I'm guessing we're within a couple of miles of each other, so if you want to talk or walk sometime, let me know!

It will get better. You are very newly post-op and your body is still trying to heal and figure out what's going on. Although getting sick is a possibility, please do not worry about "rupturing" your pouch. Those staples are very secure! (Besides, you would definitely throw up before you would harm your pouch by eating too much!)
For now, it might be easier on you mentally to stick to foods that you know you can handle without getting sick... that way you won't be worrying ABOUT getting sick. Sorry you're having such problems with nausea. I was lucky, I think... my surgeon gave me a prescription for Compazine (for nausea) for after surgery, and I probably only needed to use about 6 of them.
Hang in there.
