It's getting to where everyone is charging a program fee.  Mt. Carmel's is $300.  I hear Riverside's is $1,500.  Have you checked with OSU.  I do know OSU takes Molina, because my grandkids are on Molina and they go to OSU.  I know I started my quest for WLS with OSU and they didn't say anything about a program fee.  However, I didn't have my surgery with them, I went to Cincinnati instead, and they charged a $300 program fee.  Good Luck in your quest!

RIversides is 1500 but includes post op suppliments and 12 weeks at McConnel with a trainer to help with exercise after...my husband had surgery there and it was very succesul. My sister in law went to Mt Carmel... hers was not. I have heard that they do not make the stomach small enough. I know they do not have a good program as far as prparing ou for the challenges and follow up by comparing what she had o do and what my husband and I did. ( I was at the BArix 2 years ago... I am at 137 pounds now for 16 months)  So look at the whole picture... you want this to work! OSU has a good program... my sister went throuh them.... we have tried them all in the Coumbus area..  Good Luck.   Pam

It has to be paid before your surgery... pre op stuff takes 4-6 months at Riverside... OSU I am not sure, but check them out too, my sister has done well and they have a great pre-op program but it does take over 6 months to get through the pre surgery requiremnts there.  Good Luck on your journey.... feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. The program through Riverside is Fresh Start Bariatrics with Dr. Stephen Myers. The program fee can range from 1500 to 2500 depending on what your insurance pays. I paid 2550 whi*****luded all pre-op visits with the doctor and dietician, pre-op diet supplements, 1-month protein supplements, 1-month multi-vits, 1-month calcium and an exercise program and in the event that your insurance pays any parts of the program fee (they usually don't), they will send you the difference back. In my case I received back $800.00. If you have any questions concerning this program, please contact me. Good luck. Paula

Barbi01--I'm a lapband surgery patient with Mt. Carmel's Bariatric program and while I feel the hospitals like Riverside, OSU, Barix and Mt. Carmel in Columbus all offer a combined WLS support group meetings monthly which are free to their patients, a group of us that were lap band patients specifically found that we are about maybe 10-20% at each of the hospital's programs and so much of the group meetings focused on the needs of the 80% for RNY which we could understand. So we formed our own informal Central Ohio Lapbanders group and we share and compare all the programs around very openly without feeling like any one has it all figured out. Everyone at all the hospitals seems to be really happy with the surgical care.  Yes, Mt. Carmel's $300 compared to Riverside's $1500 program fee is less but that was a plus for me paying that out of pocket totally. I couldn't even turn that in as a Flexible Health Care Spending Account expense last year - it was considered completely an administrative charge.   I think it is great Riverside includes use of the McConnell health center but I've also found that several people in the Riverside program don't use it post surgery - they go to a gym local to their neighborhood, do walking in their favorite area, workout at a gym at work, etc. If I had paid for it as part of that $1500 I'd certainly encourage folks to be sure to get there and use it. Those of us who are lapband patients were all asked by our surgeons if we wanted to consider RNY instead of lapband due to it being a faster and permanent solution, so you should just do your research, pick a surgical facility you have high confidence in, the right procedure, right time, and I wish you all the best regardless of your decision because we all know the pain of obesity and have a dream to be healthier. If you are interested in the informal lapband central ohio group, check out lapbandtalk.com and look under USA local support groups, then pick the Ohio support group thread section.
