I'll spare you most of the gory details and frustrations, but even though I have some more weight to lose, I need to get my hernia fixed before I (possibly) lose my medical insurance in a few months (and I would REALLY like to have a panniculectomy done at the same time, whether insurance covers that part or not), but my insurance doesn't cover the PS that my weight-loss surgeon normally collaborates with.  So now I have to figure out if any of the ones that ARE covered under Aetna are any good at PS after WLS, but I don't know anything about ANY of them in the Dayton area.  Does anyone know of a plastic surgeon in the Dayton area that does a good job with WLS patients? (Feel free to send me an e-mail instead of replying if you prefer.) Here is what I have found out/researched about PS docs in the Dayton area. I looked up about 20 from my insurance and called or emailed them asking about TT after WLS and insurance and the like. NONE of them would even summit anything to insurance even if it was med ness. and I had a hernia!!!!!!! They all said no matter how big the panis was they would only do SELP PAY.  NOW there are a few docs in the Cincinnatti area that MIGHT work with you with insurance.  Dr. Butterfield USED to work with insurance http://www.womensplasticcentre.com/index.html Also Dr Martin USED to work with insurance  http://www.cincinnatiplasticsurgery.com/index.html Both have great reps with WLS people. I have heard Dr. Butterfield speak and even went to a info seccession but she told  me I didn't have a bad enough rash for insurance to cover it and I didn't have the $10, 000 for self pay.  So I'm stuck with extra skin and a rash that gets worse in the summer but not bad enought to be taken care of.  Good Luck,  Robin

That is sad!! I am sorry to hear about  that! i know I have not even had my WLS but I am sure someday I will want this, and the thought of no doctors taking insurance is horrible!!!

After spending ALL day on the phone with the offices of the PSs that Dr Rita works with, and then the offices of all the PSs that my insurance covers, NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM will submit an insurance claim for a panni removal even if I get the procedure pre-approved based on info from my PCP and Dr Rita!  Even the one surgeon who could/would do the hernia repair himself along with the panni removal would only submit a claim for the hernia repair! Clearly this has NOTHING to do with cosmetic versus medical necessity.... it is a matter of the PSs not wanting to accept what the insurance company will pay for the procedure!  (Otherwise, they would be willing to do it if I had it pre-approved.) I don't understand how a surgeon can sign a contract with a PPO (in whihc they agree ot the PPO's rate structure) and then REFUSE to provide a service covered and approved by the insurance company! I am SO upset.  The cost estimates (from the 3 that were willing to even goive me one without me coming in and paying a $75-$100 consultation fee first!) ranged from $6000 to $8500 (PLUS whatever hospital fees are not covered already by the hernia repair (and no one would even estimate that for me).  It looks like I have no choice but to just have the hernia repair done.... but then what do I do with this THING that hangs down where woman aren't supposed to have anything hanging?!?!?!? I have all these blouses and tops in my closet that now fit, but I can't wear them because only a tunic-length shirt will cover my panni,  and it makes it really difficult (not to mention mortifying)  to exercise with this disgusting thing that used to be my belly flopping around. So much for the compassion of the medical community. Lora

All I can say is been there done that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I ever win the lotto guess what comes FIRST!!!!!! It's really hard to find clothes that fit right because of this extra skin and such.  I live 3 houses form the park and POOL and we spend our summers there. Finding a swim suit that fits in IMPOSSIBLE.  I still have to wear a SWIM DRESS or find the ones with the shorts and so far I haven't seen any of those out this year.  BUT I'll still take being thinner and healthier over what I was before.  Good Luck,  Robin

Call up Dr. Rita.   She has a couple of favorites that she referred me to.  I ended up just having Dr. Rita do the hernia repair because I couldn't justify the $6k it would cost over and above what insurance would cover for something that isn't too bad anyway.
