Melanie, 5/3 does not offer coverage for surgical weight loss, unfortunately. There are a lot of financing options you can pursue though. The bottom line is that it's a matter of life or death for most patients - so don't give up! Good luck, Dr. C

Melanie, I work for Fifth Third and I have been kicking myself since February of this year for not getting my surgery in 2003 like I should have. We have an exclusion! That means no coverage for any type of weight loss treatment. I actually heard back from a higher-up HR rep today, and he made it sound like even with us switching carriers next year we will still have an exclusion. I am considering hiring an attorney if my pleas continue to go unheard. Did you participate in the Total Rewards Survey?? I did and I made sure to include my opinions of the exclusion. But one voice alone will typically go unheard... Perhaps if we become many voices we can make ourselves heard?? Let me know if you'd like to discuss this some time. I'd be happy to talk about it!
