Hello, I'm new here on this site. I am just starting my journey, just made up my my to have the surgery. So I am in dire need of ALL the help and advice I can possibly get. I am in the Cincy area, and would like any advice on wls surgeons, hospitals, etc. Also any feed back on the lap rny. I have a tremendous amount of weight to lose, about 200lbs. I have to wait until 1/1/07. My employer is adding wls to the policy, paying 80%, no clue on how to pay for the rest. Thanks or any help and advice you can share.

Welcom Ms. Kat B - I'm from Oxford so we're practically neighbors. I'm sure you'll get tons of information from other members of this forum; there are a lot of Cincinnatians here who have already had surgery and will be willing to help you. I'm just beginning my journey too. I went to a seminar in April and finally talked to my PCP (about two weeks ago) about surgery, he agreed to write a letter to my insurance company. One of the reasons I'm taking things so slowly is because I have to build up some personal time at work. My dear mother became ill and passed away last December so I used up most of my time then. So now I hope to have enough time built up to have my surgery in April or May. This will be my birthday present to myself as I'll turn 50 in April. Good luck on your journey! Sheryle

Hey Sheryle, Thanks for the support. We are practically neighobrs. Which procedure are you planning on doing and why. And how are things going with your insurance co. I also have Anthem. And last but in no way least, I am sorry about your mom, I do pray that God will give you all the comfort you need.

Welcome Ms. Kat, I'm also pre-op. Don't have a date yet, still jumping through the hoops. I just started a 12 weeks supervised weight loss program. I'm having my surgery in Columbus through OSU and would like to have it after jan. 1, 2007. Wished I could help you with the Cincy area. Dr. Trace Curry gets rave reviews from all his patients. He even answers questions here on the board. If I were closer to Cincy, that's who I would go to. If you pull up Bariatric surgeons on the left there, you can see a list of the surgeons in Ohio and read their reviews. It also tells how many surgeries they've performed, etc. Good luck with your endeavor and, once again, Welcome. Peggy

As for doctors I have to say Dr. Curry also, he and his staff are the best, there for you 100% 24hrs a day 365 days a yr. If you read the board you will also notice that Dr. C, is on posting to everyone patients or not, so he is truly a great doctor as well as a great guy. Welcome to the board. I would also have to recommend Dr. Curry. Do you know what other things your insurance company requires? Do they require 6 or 12 months of dr. supervised diet? 5 years of documentation showing you have tired to lose weight through diets, exercise, etc.? Contact your insurance company to find out what they will need to approve you. You should also be able to get a list of hospitals and doctors in your network. Good luck on your journey. If you have any additional questions you can e-mail. MJ

Hi Kat, Dr. Curry is very well respected here in the Cincy area. He does RNY and LapBand and his patients love him. If you're looking at all procedures, I also highly recommend Dr. Rita Anderson in Kettering at http://newlifesurgery.org/overview.html . It's only about an hour away from Cincy, depending on what end of town you live in. She does lap RNY and DS at Kettering hospital. Kettering Hospital has an entire wing dedicated to bariatric patients and have hand-picked staff to work there. Many have had various WLS themselves, so they know exactly how to care for us, because they've been there, too. I've had a wonderful experience with Dr. Rita and the hospital, and thank God every day for my DS. What I like about both of these docs is that they do a couple different procedures, so they will give you honest and straight answers about comparisons between them. I know Dr. Anderson does an info seminar once or twice a month that you have to register for, but is no cost to you and no hounding afterwards either. I would recommend that you research everything. I went into my research pointed at one procedure, and found that the procedure I chose was much better suited for me.
