Hi Amy,
I'm Cristy and we just moved to WPAFB in April. So far we love it here. I am still pre-op but there is a support group that meets at WPAFB (actually it's in the privatized housing area but it's through WPAFB) and from what I've heard it meets the last Thursday of the month.
I am planning to attend the one that is next Thursday, even though I haven't even had a consultation yet. One of the surgeons is leaving so I'm not sure how 'helpful' the group will be as far as questions next week, but maybe it'll make everyone feel a little more open after already seeing me once :0)
One of the girls from this site actually told me about it and I've chatted with her a bit and she says that she's gotten a lot from the group. Feel free to email me or if you have a myspace add me (link in signature) and we can keep in touch. If you need anything (even non-WLS) let me know :0)
Hi Cristy...my brother just retired from the airforce, he was stationed at Wright Patt..he now lives in beavercreek..so we still do a few things on base..we had a huge party there last fall and Sat. before last we attended a wedding and reception on base, it was a blast!!
I have wanted to attend a support group meeting..I had heard one doc was leaving and two more was taking his place, I think?
but I do have a question -is the doc military or is he a civilian surgeon? not that it matters I was just curious..I ask a friend of mine who is a Synovis Surgical rep..she didn't know the answer either.
welcome to the board and good luck with your process..
Brenda
Brenda sorry i lost contact with you
The docs said they would be open to you coming to a support group.
The Doc who is leaving was my doc boo hoo i will really miss him. The new doc who will have his paper work done to start seeing patiens on his own assisted in my surg so i feel really comfortable with him. I am really not sure if he is military or not i am assuming he is though i dont remember if i have ever seen him in uniform. His name is actually doctor Doc (not sure of spelling) The other new one who has been here awhile is Dr. Goldbladt sp? A friend of mine had surg with him and really likes him.
Christy sure come to a meeting its a friendly bunch the meetings really arent formal at all. Everyone is welcome all the time. This wil pretty much just be a party for Dr. Vesco who is seperating and becoming a Vascular Heart Surgeon I think (his dream) I cant imagine that as he was so dedicated to each and everyone of us. He will be greatly missed. Take a look at my profile so you recognize me and introduce yourself for sure. I wont be missing this one I hope i will probably be very tired as im on overnights this week but will be sure to make it there.

Hi Tamara, that would be great..not sure I can do it before my daughter's wedding, July 15th..but I would love to make it after that...can you give me some directions? as I said my brother now lives in Beavercreek and has been stationed at Wright Patt a few years..he also lived there many years ago when he was a Marine corp recruiter..he just retired from the airforce.
Brenda
Amy let me say welcome. I had surgery at WPAFB and still reside here. The base has a support group once a month for pre and post op and once a month for just those post. The difference is the pre/post the doctors attend so that patients get all the advice. The post op meeting is just for people to chat and bounce stuff off each other.
I know there are support groups around that are in town as well. Let me know when you get closer to coming and i will defintately meet up with you and take you to a meeting.
My doc who started the program and teats it like his baby is leaving this week
But the doc who assisted in my surg will be practicing in July here and the other new doc is great too. Its really nice to be able to call up and be seen very quickly they really take good care of us here.
If you have any questions let me know.
Tammy O
