I found out today that I have been approved by the insurance co. But OSU will not schedule my consult until I have or OSU recieves the confirmation letter. I am so excited and nervous. So many questions. How long did someone stay with you after you were discharged from the hospital? Trying to get a timeline as to how long my husband or someone else needs to stay with me. I am very indepedent and I hate to ask for help. My usual comment is "Oh I am fine. Doing ok". If my dh does the prep work will I be able to be alone. I have alot of family, but dont want to be a bother. Help PLease!

my DH took the week off and I enjoyed being waited on. It was nice to have some there as I did make use of my pain meds. I could have done ok by myself, I had lap done & could manage the stairs ok for the bathroom but still... denise W 398/283

I came home from the hospital on Sunday and stayed home alone for the rest of the time during the day. My husband had to work and my daughter had to go to school. Someone would make sure I got downstairs before leaving for work and the rest was up to me. I did have people I could call if I needed help, but no one stayed with me. I did fine. If you can have someone stay with you....great! If not, I am sure you can do it, too. Good luck! Linda

My doc says they send you home able to take care of yourself. If you are alone. If you need any lifting done or kids taken care of you need someone else for that. My hubby took 10 days to take care of me I think it was a little vacation for him lol. Tammy O

I had surgery on Weds, was released on Sat. My husband was on spring break for that week but went back to work on Monday. I needed more help in the hospital than at home. Have meals already prepared for you as you will not feel up to mixing drinks and food. I bathed when someone was home in case I got dizzy. I handled stairs fine. I actually didn't want anyone with me since I felt so yucky. My Mom and husband called a couple times a day to check on me. Melisa

As long as you have nobody to care for but yourself, a couple days with someone's assistance (if you need it) would be a good idea. I'm also VERY independent and quickly shooed the two men (FIL, DH and 12 yr old son) in my house that were hovering over me. I sent them off to do house chores instead. I was surprised at how much I could do myself...especially after open surgery. I just took my time doing it and I was okay. I think the most useful thing DH did was let me grab his arm to help hoist myself out of bed. One little tip in case you have a problem with your reach-around. Get a wooden spoon or a pair of tongs to hold toilet paper. They may try to sell you some overpriced tongs at the hospital, but the dollar store kind would be just as useful. I never needed this, but was grateful for the tip just in case, and i was well prepared.

I had open surgery so I was a bit sore for the first couple of weeks and needed help up and down.. Today with so many awesome surgeons doing laparoscopic the soreness only last a few days and you can go back to doing nearly anything but lifting right away.. I have been involved with alot of patients as a support person and patient advocate..I have seen them bounce right back. the procedure definately has a lot to do with it. Brenda
