Coldwater Creek and Family Dollar Going Out of Business

Since I lost weight, my favorite store has been Coldwater Creek.  When I was heavier I did not want to buy their clothes, but will really miss them now.  I will also miss Family Dollar.  Both victims of the recession.

Family Dollar?? Really?? I hadn't heard that! I'd have thought that "dollar stores" would have thrived during the recession, as people couldn't afford to shop anywhere more expensive! That stinks :(

Family Dollar isn't going out of business. They are closing a lot of their stores, however, and opening fewer new ones. Family Dollar - victim of improving economy or changing consumer attitudes?

Family dollar isn't really a dollar store.  Every thing in there is priced with even dollars like 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.  not like dollar tree where everything is actually 1 dollar.

True. I was lumping all stores with the word "dollar" in their name into one category (Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, etc). Still, these stores are cheaper than other major retailers, which lead me to assume that they would be doing a booming business during the recession.

My mother motto was "poor people can't afford cheap stuff".  Some of items in those stores are very poor quality and you need more. Some are really more expensive than you can get in other stores.  My ex tried to save money and bought cat food in one of those stores.. . one cat got sick and after a week with a sick cat, and over 200 in vet bills.. He decided that he can't save money that way.

For the most part I've found Family Dollar to be more expensive for basics than Target and WalMart or the cheaper stuff is poorer than poor quality.

I'm really sad about Coldwater Creek.  I really liked their sweaters and they had some great sales.

The Family Dollar by me is in the middle of a remodel.
