Need New Phones, Any Advice?

The husbeast and I are looking at options for new phones. He hates his IPhone, and my Droid RAZR is about three years old at this point, so it's time. We'll probably stay with our current carrier (Verizon) and are looking seriously at the new Samsung Galaxy S5. Any thoughts you'd care to toss out there?

I have a samsung galaxy and -hate- it.  It was much worse until my husband put a different android version on it.

I wish I could go back to having a jailbroken iPhone.  Did you have an iPhone before?  Did you try jailbreaking it?

I've never had an iPhone, no. I'm not a big Apple fan. As far as jailbreaking, I'm not really a power user, so I'd have no reason to jailbreak or root or move from carrier to carrier.

I loved my Galaxy S4.  I just got the new Samsung Note 3 - it is HUGE, but I love it.  It comes with a stylus, and I take notes on my phone when I am at inspections for my job.  The only bummer is that I updated my phone's OS to the new one (Kit Kat), and there is no way to root my phone yet - waaahh.

I was a devout iPhone user for about 4 years prior to getting the Galaxy S4.  I just couldn't handle the limitations that the iPhone had, even after I jailbroke that sucker.  iPhones definitely have their place in life (like, for my parents, who just can't handle the customization of an android), but I won't be going back.

Yeah, the Note would be too big for the husbeast, he needs something that's shirt-pocket sized. He's absolutely over Apple, especially after this last update, and will be getting an android based phone this time around.

I have the droid ultra and the wife has the droid mini. Essentially the same phone but the mini is smaller. We both like them very much. I used to have an iphone and love the bigger screen of the droid ultra.

I have the Droid Maxx, which I bought because I was tired of the limited battery life of my Droid 4.  Most of my bluetooth accessories are for Androids, so I stuck in the same family.

Yep, the battery life on my Droid has been the single biggest irritant! I've seen reviews that the Maxx has hugely improved battery life than previous Droids.

Husband and I have Galaxy S3's, which we got right after they came out. The S5's are very nice, though not much of an upgrade from the S4's. My husband is actually an Android programmer, and he says the Galaxy phones are pretty much the best value right now, the hardware is very stable and they tend to be first in line to receive new system updates and the latest versions of Android.

Ah, very cool. Since your husband is a developer and all, does he think it's worth getting a device with the Snapdragon 805 chipset, or will the 801 be plenty?
