Serial Killers

I enjoy reading news reports, biographies, websites, etc. about serial killers. It helps to understand the human mind - if one ever can. Who is your favorite serial killer and why?  I'll start.

Lawrence Bittaker.   Famous for recording on a cassette player the screams of his victims as he tortured them.  It was a big story in SoCal when I was in high school.  Bittaker has a genius IQ.  With his partner in crime, Roy Norris, they would abduct, rape, torture and kill young females in their GMC cargo van which they nicknamed "Murder Mac."  It looked like the van in Scooby Doo to me.

I have read a lot of books on this subject and it seems a lot of them have VW vans. I am not sure who my favorite is. Ted Bundy was one of the few who could use his charms and looks.

Ted Bundy is in the serial killer hall of fame.  Incredibly charming and intelligent, attractive and trustworthy, he killed a lot of young women and escaped capture for many years.  I know Bundy drove a VW bug.  It was one of the things they finally used to catch him.

Yes most of them have hig IQ's and are white. There is one that I know of that was black.

There was a black nerdy serial killer who abducted tortured and raped young black men. 

That is the one I was referring too. The FBI said it a was a black guy because a white guy would stick out in that neighborhood. 

Most serial killers victimize people of their own race. That's probably why they knew he was African American...

Yes, it was Wayne Williams and he was convicted of the Atlanta Child Murders.  I just did a short paper on him. 

From what I read by the guy who caught him it was that and the fact it was the ghetto and a white man grabbing young black kids would have been very noticeable. 

About 10 years ago I took a forensic social work class that focused solely on offender populations and - you guessed it! - serial killers.  We watched all kinds of documentaries on them and even had to do a report on one.  I chose Aileen Wuornos - immortalized by Charlize Theron in "Monster".   I started having nightmares about this **** and was really, really glad when the semester was over.
