Topic: RE: 6 mth check up at Arnot
I have to agree with you about everything that you wrote about Dr. Rahman.....I didn't have him as my bariatriac surgeon, but had him do 2 of my emergency surgeries!!!
My surgeon was "Dr. Sadha" and I have to say that he was great! Professional, super polite, and very honest with you about what GBS is and how it will impact your life. I wouldn't have another doctor do WLS unless it wa Dr. Rahman.
Three weeks after my RNY, I ended up in the ER and "Dr. Sadha" wasn't on call that day. I ended up with Dr. Rahman...(didn't know what to expect, but when you are in pain....you aren't too particular who is treating you). All I can say is that Dr. Rahman was great! He diagnosed that my gallbladder was messed up and needed to come out that night....(Granted...at that point...I would have rolled myself into the OR...) but it wasn't that night...but the next morning that he did surgery.
Dr. Rahman did an excellent job! and over the next 2 1/2 weeks he kept in touch with me and I went to my appointment and was cleared to start working out with my trainer. As much as I would have loved to get in a few training sessions with my trainer, I didn't. I went to work one day (after waking up feeling like crap...) and became very sick.
My boss ended up taking me to the ER at Arnot, and guess who was on call....Dr. Rahman!!! lol. I ended up with a rather large hernia from throwing up too much and too hard. The next thing I know is that Dr. Rahman is telling me that I needed to have emergency hernia surgery....GREAT! I was ready for anything that would get rid of the pain and throwing up.
To sum it up...if you ever need emergency surgery (or just the standard Gastric Bypass) drop me a line,......I got TWO GREAT surgeons that I can personally recommend.
<<>> lol

Topic: RE: BRAND NEW IN CHEEKTOWAGA..LOOKING FOR SURGEONS
I used Dr. Viglianco who was affiliated with Dr. Caruana's office. I have a lapband and have been very happy with it. Dr. Phame is now doing the laproscopic lapbands for the office. They are listed under Synergy Bariatrics. They are on North Union in Williamsville. I highly recommend them.

Wow, Iam so sorry to hear this. Idon't know if there are any that have experience with weight loss surgery.Head over to Facebook and searh for the group - Capital District of NY WLS Support.Post on the wall what you are looking for, you may find someone that can give you some names.
I also go to a weekly support group that may be able to help you a bit. We meet every Thursday, 5:30 -7:30 pmatAlbany Medical Center South Campus at 25 Hackett Blvd. We are starting to see more people that have had or are planningto have VSG. And we do talk about the good, the bad and the ugly of all WLS.

Just want to add - the support group is lead by a social worker. She may be able to help you find someone to talk to outside of group.

Topic: frustrated... have gained
Hey all!!! I havent been on in a long time. Thought it was time to check in. I have gradually gained back around 30 pounds, and just did my BMI and its 30, now I am back in the obese category. I work all the time,, in my at home nail salon, working 10-12 hours a day and then have to take care of everything else. I am getting very discouraged and frustrated. I am trying to eat good, but I am almost 5 years out and I think my pouch has stretched. I can eat quite a bit now, and this scares me. I am seeing a difference and feeling a difference. My clothes dont fit. I know I need to get active, but its so hard with very very little time. I eat on the run and I cook and eat late. I had also been on hormones for 3 months and in that time period I gained 15 pounds and feel it. I am so busy with clients that I cannot even make it to our local meetings anymore.
Our family had a recent eye opener, RNY has changed 5 family members lives and many friends. My youngest daughter being one of them. Well, she is a college student and of course started partying, and drinking soda, you name it, she did it. She will be 3 years out in July. She woke up very early one morning and was in excrutiating pain, come to find out, she had a perforated ulcer just below the stoma of her pouch an had to undergo emergency open surgery to repair the ulcer. All related to her diet and drinking. One and a half months later she had her gall bladder out, and it was full of stones. She is now on a very strict diet for life. And it opened my eyes to no more caffeine amongst many other things I was letting myself eat again.
Can our pouchs or our stomas, shrink back to where it should be??? I am willing to live on proteins shakes, etc. if I have to to get it back where it once was.

Topic: Need Psych in Albany area, PLEASE!
I had a VSG on April 27, 2010 and I am absolutely miserable. I wish I had never done this. Nothing but complications after the surgery. I need a psychologist or social worker in the Albany area who had experience with WLS. Thanks! Jen
