I am learning about the various WLSurguries available and in the first stages of the game at this point. I now realize that I need to come to a decision of what surgery is best for me first, before finding a doctor. Because they all are pushing whatever procedures they perform so you can utimately choose their office. I am excited and scared at the same time. But I know I have to do something to lose this weight and begin to enjoy life to the fullest before I hit 50 years old in two years. I am enjoying reading the profiles and experiences of you post ops and it makes me happy to know I am not alone in my quest for a healthier and happier existence. Talk to ya soon through my updates and message postings. Stay well and stay safe. Vanessa :=D

Vanessa, I haven't been on in a while, but I did have my surgery in Oct 2005, my 6 month anniversary is coming up on the 25th of this month. I have lost 100lbs as of my last weigh in, and I feel great!! However wls is still surgery and there are many complications that can follow and is not something that should be taken lightly. Learn as much as you can here, and learn as much as you can bout the surgeons. My surgeon was top notch. The hospital also top notch, these factors make the process a lot easier. NY Presbyterian is a learning hospital for Cornell and Columbia, and my surgeon Dr. Alfons Pomp is one of the pioneers of the gastric bypass procedure. Make sure you are comfortable not only with the personality of the physician but their knowledge and experience as well. Also, do not choose a doctor or a hospital based on convenience or location. Sometimes you have to go out of your way to achieve your goals. ok enough outta me... good luck!!!

Vanessa welcome to the boards. It is very important as Enzo has said to make sure you are comfy with your decision as far as the surgeon is concerned. That is the most important decision you make on this journey. There are many excellent surgeons . Check out their follow up, what they have to offer as well in support. Good luck on your journey. We are here for you. Enzo,,,,glad to see you posting! Been missing you in chat though.Congrats on the 100 pounds. Awsome! LisaMarie

Hi Vanessa! Welcome to the boards. I agree with LisaMarie and Enzo that it's important to not only research the surgeon but the surgery. It's a big deal and knowledge is power. This web site, along with tons of others (google weight loss surgery or gastric bypass) can educate you on the benefits and risks of this type of surgery. Take your time. I researched wls for about a year, and am now awaiting surgery on 4/27. I know exactly how you feel when you say "scared and excited at the same time!" Keep us posted on your progress. Ask a lot of questions. Folks here are excellent about supporting each other! Amy
