empire plan (approval)

Hello everyone New to this forum! I was wondering if anyone has worked with the empire plan for thier insurance company? I am waiting for aproval and a little nervous about it. I am at 39.87 BMI and I am not sure if they will approve me or not?? Can anyone give me any insite? Thanks

Hi Kari, I have empire plan/UHC and they approved the surgery on the first request by the dr's office. The hospital portion (UHC) was paid in full; they are still working with the dr's office for the surgical fees. I used a non participating surgeon and am finding the wait most difficult. Empire/uhc use a "going rate for the area" even though the surgeon's office said they would participate so I'm not sure what amount will be covered once everything is settled. So, if you are using a participating surgeon, you should be ok. If not, then let me know and we can compare notes on coverage. Sorry I can't be of more help. LindaM

Thank you Linda.. what was your BMI if I could ask? I am just a little nervous because I am 1 pound short of having a 40 BMI. I am using empire/uhc so and from what I have experienced with them so far has been pretty good so hopfully this goes smoothly. I should know something tomorrow. I have the empire plan through my husband's job. My surgeon sent the letter in for approval and three weeks later, I got a call from them saying I was approved. My BMI was higher, but I don't know what their requirements are. Good luck!

I read ahead... I don't know if my empire plan is the same as yours...is it the NY state one with UHC/Empire BC/BS? If so, make sure all your info is updated with them. I went through a small fiasco enough to worry me a little because Empire BC/BS denied me post op even though they had pre-approved me. My husband kept saying if we have to pay this 21K...you fill in the blanks-LOL

Hi Kari I have the empire plan and was approved with no problems but my bmi was 46 Good luck
