Hi Deb... I take two 28mg tablets of Nature's Bounty Ferrous Gluconate every day. According to the bottle one tablet is 150% of the daily requirement, so that means that I'm taking 300% plus whatever I get from whatever I eat (i.e. meats and veggies). When I donate blood my iron always comes out within the normal range, so I guess that's working for me. You might want to check with your doctor or a nutritionist. Joanne

Oh I forgot to mention, don't take it at the same time you take your calcium.

Iron and calcium will cancel each other out. The same reason you shouldn't take the iron with dairy products.

Yep, 300%, but when you consider our malabsorption [which we will have for life, kids] that means you are actually absorbing less than half that amount

Quite welcome sweetie - sometimes it's easy to forget that we malabsorb things [grins - look at all the wls babies from gals who did not realize that pills, even bc pills, are malabsorbed!!!] *huggggggggggs* n stuff

Just make sure that you don't swallow any iron supplements, or a food taken because you want its iron, with milk. Also make sure you don't have any dairy products right before or after taking an iron pill. Milk and milk-based products make the iron benefits null and void. Lisa in the Hudson Valley!
