insurance approval

spoke with my insurance company PPO BCBS on Friday to see where I stood on approval, the girl I spoke with was very nice and went to check on my status, insurance company requested addiditonal information about three weeks prior and was just received my insurance company on the 22nd. She got back on the line and told me that it had not been reviewed yet but asked the "reviewer" to move to to the top of the pile, she then stated I would have an answer sent to me in the mail hopefully by Wednesday. The more I thought about it the more crazy I am becoming. I'm thinking if the response is coming in the mail then it must be a no answer, otherwise they would call the physician and they would call be with a date. Am I overthinking this? I am just so anxious to get this done.

Waiting is the hardest part. Hang in there and think postive thoughts. I will say a little prayer for you. If you met all the requirements then it should be no problem. Please let us know. LisaMarie

Eileen: It is common practice for insurance companies to send approvals/disapprovals via mail/fax. Calling is not the 'usual and customary practice'. I work as a Psych NP and approval for things such as visits, medications, etc are almost exclusively sent via mail/fax to myself, the patient and pharmacy etc. At times they will tell you via the phone if you request but again not the usual and customary practice I know of! Yes the angst of waiting can have us overthinking all sorts of ways! Take this time to journal your thoughts and feelings, look at the goals you have set forth for this journey, and remember a NO is not a NO until you stop fighting! I appreciate your wanting to hurry up with this process, but if you can reframe that this will happen and no matter if it is today, next week or a month from now, you have used the time to make the best educated and informed decision for you. I tell people it is not a race, we didn't get here overnight, and we won't get to healthy overnight also. I agree patience is hard, it was quite challenging for myself, I had my date rescheduled three times! BUT I believe I had surgery at the right time, the best time for me to develop that healthy lifestyle I neded to be successful not just in the first 6 months but longterm! Hi Eileen - I got my approval via mail as well...my carrier was UHC at the time. I think it's pretty customary. Easier said than done, but try to hang in and not worry about it. Wishing you all the best! Mary Mc
