Have any of you ladies out there had any problems with their periods since losing a large amount of weight? For the last 2 months mine have been running 9 days in duration instead of the normal 4-5 days. The GYN I work for says it maybe because I've lost so much weight in a short period of time that it's messing with my cycles. If this happens again next month then I'm going to have to start a low dose BCP to regulate my cycles. It kinda ironic because I had a tubal ligation after my youngest was born. Geez, I never thought I'd have to deal with BCPs again!! Any s? Please let me know. Thank you!! Barb 342/206/hoping for 170

Barb, Hun I have heard so many strange things with the periods after this surgery.....people that were regular now become irregular and visa versa... What helped me become regular before surgery was adding Soy into my diet, I know that sounds strange but sure enough I am keeping some soy now via soy nuts and soy milk, seems it still helps. It might be worth giving it a try and if nothing else it is a good form of protein. Best wishes, let me know.... ~Hugs~ Debra P 285/202/125??

Hey Barb, I lost 100lbs at 7 months post-op and it definately effected my period. I didn't get it for the first 2 months after surgery, and then when I got it, it was so much heavier then normal. But luckily over the last couple of months it has been good not to heavy and I only have it for about 4-5 days. You probally should go on the BCP regulate it. HTH Elizabeth 251/135ish

i'm approaching 3 years out and mine has never been the same. my first one post op lasted 10 days, i normally have a 3 day cycle. my periods now are very heavy. talk about dreading that time of the month. my ob/gyn the problem stems from the drastic weight lost. donna open rny mar 18 2003 282/140/135

Hey Barb, OK this might be TMI but here goes anyway???? I was pretty lucky. I got my period while I was in the hospital after surgery and luckily I got my period again almost exactly 4 weeks later. So since I was on the BCP prior to surgery and I was told there is only a 70% absorption rate after surgery, I switched to the patch which I was able to start when I got my first period after surgery and I have been regular since. (I have always relied on BCP for a regular period or atleast since I was about 19, so to be without was scarey to me) Again, I was lucky! I have lost 66lbs since surgery and I know that the patch isn't 100% effect until your under 200lbs, but I was more concerned about getting my period then for anything else. Good luck with everything! I was told by a friend though that once you stop losing weight your body just goes back "normal" (or as normal as it gets after WLS). Best of luck! Ilyssa 268/202/???
