I am counting the days until my surgery date, this will be my first surgery ever and I am extremely nervous and excited all at once! I hope and pray that ny surgery will be a huge success and that I have very little pain! I have read some pointers on what to do when I am awake after the surgery is to walk as much as I can, so that will be my first thing that I do! Well I will keep everyone posted on my upcoming surgery!

I know how you feel. My surgery on September 21st was my first surgery and first time with anesthesia. Surprisingly, I was nervous and making myself sick over it for days and the morning of surgery I was fine. Luckily I woke up from anesthesia with no problems. Walking was hard, but I did it. I did not sleep at all in the hospital so make sure you've got a comfy place to sleep when you get home--you'll need it! Think positive. Good luck to you!

Dear Marie, Good luck with your surgery. You will be fine! I can understand the nerves growing b/c this is your first surgery. One thing about being under general is they put a respirator in you while you are out to help with your breathing. Sometimes you wake up and they still have it in you but they pull it out right away. Your throat probably will be sore b/c of it. (Personally, my throat burns b/c of it.) Waking is probably the best advice you can get for after having surgery. You do not want to lie around while you let the pneumonia and blood clots grow. . I have learned through all of my ordeals that moving around actually helps numb the pain away verus lying around feeling sorry for yourself. Walking actually makes the pain less. It really does get easier with every step. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. Please let me know how everything goes, ok? Take care and best wishes. Tavia

Hi Marie, I just had my surgery on sept. 28th. It was my first major surgery too! It worked well because of all the pointers that I was given on these boards. Make sure you wear a loose comfortable dress to the hospital too. and shoes that are easy to slip on and slip off. Take your pain meds (don't be a hero) and say your prayers --then leave it in the Lord's hands. Just look forward to being on the "losers" side. You have a wonderful journey ahead of you! Post and tell us how you are doing! Be Blessed, Marian S.C.
