Hi im new here....I start...
Hi im new here....I started my process for surgery a couple months ago, the nutritionist wants me to lose 30 pounds, I am not losing the weight because of the insulin I take so they put me on Meridia which made me sick and raised my blood pressure. Im getting a little bit discouraged but still trying hard .
Hi Stacy! Sorry to hear that you're struggling - it's such a catch 22: you need to lose weight to have the surgery and try to help with the diabetes, and you can't lose weight to have the surgery because you have diabetes! I (thank the Lord) don't have diabetes, so I hesitate to try to give you advise. When I have had success in losing in the past (my problem has always been keeping it off!), it's been low carb diets like Medifast. You would think the nutritionist could work out a plan for you to get it off! Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that you have support out here, and I'll be thinking of you!!
Take care!
Alison

Stacy,
Welcome to the board hun, you will love it here I am sure....
Hang in there and get through this so you can have your surgery. What is the nutritionist going to do now to help you lose the weight? What about asking your PCP for some advice. I wish you the best, please keep up posted on your progress....~hugs~

I go back to the Nutritionist in the beginning of July to see how much I lost if any and maybe she will have a new game plan for me . My diabetes doctor has put me on a new kind of Metformin pill to get me off the Insulin cause I no longer need to take it because I have been doing really well maintaining a good blood sugar level . So hopefully something works in my favor soon... Thanks for everybodies response
Hi Stacy!!
May I ask what doc you are going too?? I had my surgery in Schenectady at Ellis Hosp. with Dr. Lirio... He put me on Medifast liqued diet 6 weeks prior to surgery. I lost around 30 pds on that. I'm not sure if you are able to do that being diabetic. Hang in there....you can do it!!!
Good luck and take care!!!

Hi Stacy,
I'm new here too and want to let you know that you'll find a lot of support with these great people (and I've only met a few so far!!). I can't imagine having to lose 30 lbs before having my surgery... and I'm thankful my nutritionist didn't impose that strategy on me. If you don't mind me asking.. why do you have to lose the weight before your surgery? I've read that in a few profiles I've browsed through but never understood the point.
Good luck to you and if you ever need a shoulder, I've got big ones!
Hugs,
Lisa
